Saw several at Eagle Mountain Park, Fort Worth today.
Opuntia. Common prickly pear cactus. Got a gaggle of them in my front yard. Flowers last a day (generally) or maybe two, then quickly dry out and fade. The 'pear' shaped structure beneath the flowers will become the tasty cactus 'fruit' by July or so, depending on their geographic location. The fruits will have tiny cactus spines, and harvesting them with anything short of three layers of Kevlar gloves will result in you having spines stuck in your hands. I use the long handled knife and tongs from a bbq set, then singe the spines off before peeling and eating.
Nice shot. If you harvest follow Kany's advise. They make good jelly too.
