I don't understand The Attic. I've gotten into trouble with Admin because I posted things in Chit-Chat that he said should have been posted in The Attic. Since then, I've written, but not posted, several articles because I suspected there might be a way to consider them Attic material. It was my writing and deleting a totally non-political post that prompted me to post this topic. I like coming here every day, and I don't want to be banned.

Why do you fear a posting may end up in the attic? And why does the attic even exist? To me it's simply another way of categorizing things, a different drawer in the filing cabinet if you will! Not a bad place, just a different place. And why "the attic", why not "the basement" or "the garage" or "the shed", places you'd imagine people would hang out in playing cards, smoking cigars, having a cold one and discussing controversial subjects.

I believe that anything that might cause conflict is Attic only material, along with questionably bad language or inferred bad language. Politics and religion should not be for discussion in this forum at all. At the end of the day this is a photographic forum for both professionals and hobbyists who, hopefully, share common interests, and who recognise there is a difference between the two, and that the two should live happily side by side.

Jerry, in the little blurb written on the "all sections" page, about The Attic it says, Complaints and rants about topics moved to The Attic will also be moved to The Attic. 🤔

Let's see, you are one of the senior members of UHH and you fear posting something in Chit-Chat could get you banned?! Somehow I doubt that. If you were to post something Admin found objectionable, it would probably just be deleted and you'd get a PM informing so. I've read many, many of your postings since I joined several years ago and I don't recall anything that was remotely ban worthy. As for what constitutes attic material, from what I've seen it's fairly subjective. I've seen postings with mnemonic abbreviations that should have been deleted that only ended up in the attic and the posters were still posting way.

Yes, it is indeed a photography related forum, regardless of time of day, but there is a category for non-photography related postings, it's even in the category name, "General Chit-Chat (non photography talk)". So regardless of what some members feel or think, there is, at all times of the day, a category specifically for non photography related postings.

I have seen heinously wrong things posted in the attic, including blatantly racist comments and personal attacks on members wives and daughters that didn’t get anyone banned ... because they were leftists.

Is it something to do with time of day? baring in mind that we have members around the globe?
Yes, we do have "General Chit-Chat" but we also have the "Attic". My post was to put forward my thoughts on what should go into the "Attic" - and what should not go anywhere but the "Attic"
