The predictions were not wrong avtually. They were altered by our changed behavior. Sort of like the parachute has slowed my decent so I can cut it loose now.

Wow! The Libs are out in force against this doctor. She makes a lot of sense if you listen to her.

How's this for science. Just because Trump said something positive the opposite must be true. That's the scientific reasoning on HCQ. Not the fact that it has worked in her cases and many many more around the world.

How about the numbers? Fauci and the scientists are big on numbers. There is a 99.99% chance you won't be killed by the virus in this country. But the threat is so serious we have to abandon 230 years of our hard fought liberty, way of life, sweat equity businesses, and means of support because there is no cure. They keep moving the goal posts, are we waiting for a cure for cancer next?

But we shouldn't listen to this doctor on the front lines who actively treats Covid patients with overwhelming success. Instead, we should listen to liberal darlings like Bill Gates, a college dropout with no medical degree who expounds about treatment and vaccines and health policy, but who was kicked out of India for his failed vaccine attempts.

Yes, in part I think we are being sold a bill of goods by the unelected non-science (masks outdoors, quarantines, etc.) doctors and governors who have been consistently wrong in their models. But they play well on TV with the frightened masses who choose to suspend their critical thinking.

Allie,

Even the experts, the scientists, and the medical professionals have differences of opinion. When they disagree on the facts, and especially what the facts mean to us, which ones would you believe?

Remember the experts first told us not to worry, then they said not to wear masks, now they tell us to wear masks, then they said the droplets only travel a few feet, so six feet is good for us and 2 meters is good for everyone else. Then they said the droplets can travel much further than six feet - up to 15 feet and stay airborne much longer than previously stated.

At first, only old people were at risk. Then middle-aged people but not children. Then young adults, and now children. Basically everyone is at risk. But only those with underlying health issues are at more risk. No the virus is racist because it attacks people of color more than white people based on percentages.

They told us millions will die. We need millions of ventilators and hospital beds. Then millions didn't die and we didn't use any of the hospital beds. We didn't need those ventilators either and are shipping them overseas.

They told us to take extraordinary precautions to "flatten the curve" to reduce potential surge on hospitals. We did that, and now they warn that more people will die is we stop those precautions even though we "flattened the curve" as they wanted.

The list of what these experts told us that was wrong just goes on and on and on. So who do you listen to?

Listen to Trump. He is in touch with world leaders from other countries as well as all the top medical and research professionals. He has instituted Operation Warp Speed to try and get us a vaccine in record time. His instincts have been right so far. And the funny thing is he is being liberal about opening the country up while the Liberals are being conservative. C'mon Libs aren't you supposed to be all liberal all the time?

Whatever happened to the concept of sacrificing for the common good? I guess when you are a self-centered idiot, that concept is inconceivable.

Myself, I heed the advice of scientists and genuine doctors, not quacks.

That type of sacrifice is Communism/Socialism my friend. Whatever happened to rugged Individualism where we didn't look to mommy big government to watch us and take care of us?

Selfishness? There is a virtue to selfishness. If I take care of myself than somebody else doesn't have to. And I am also free to help others.

Not actually true DocDav. These predictions were made based on false or incorrect or inaccurate assumptions as well as very limited data sets. These predictions went only one way - absolute worse case scenario.

Using the same methods for the upcoming hurricane season (science-predicted higher than average hurricanes), coupled with COVID-19 precautions, we should be evacuating all coastal areas of the US now. We cannot wait until a hurricane is actually threatening our coast because evacuations will take to long. We don't have enough shelters as it is, yet to include social distancing requirements and separation of the more vulnerable folks from the rest in the shelters. We don't have all the necessary supplies (food, drink, bedding, medical, social, computers, internet, cell phone coverage, etc.) to care for the shelterees. If we wait to evacuate, hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, will DIE!!!

Now everyone will say that prediction is stupid. And it is. But it is based on science using past data, current resources, and assumptions, so it must be true, right. True, just like the COVID-19 predictions are true too.

Sorry, guess I'm not batshit crazy enough to listen to much of what Trump says. He's barely in touch with reality, let alone anybody smarter than him. I guess I need to watch more Fox News. I do tune in occasionally, and usually feel stupid and confused afterward.
I'd take your advice on photography anytime, Fotoartist. Politics.... NAH!

You are correct - this virus may depend year round on how we behave - on whether we consistently 'socially distant' and use masks.

Rehess,

Then again, it might not depend on how we behave. It will probably change/mutate on its own, like SARS and MERS have done. All three are coronaviruses and not the flu, which often come in waves.

TRUE science evolves as more information becomes available. Quacks don't evolve, ignore data contrary to their position, and claim they have always been right.

I just got back from Australia. There, ALL arriving passengers are now taken in buses to hotels where they are in mandatory quarantine for 14 days, government paying for hotel and food. Australia has flattened their curve.
Arriving in the US, nothing, not even a temperature scan. NO information about what to do. I had to go to the CDC website to find out I should quarantine for 14 days. Potential effects of not doing so?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-23/cruise-ship-infamous-for-triggering-virus-surge-leaves-australia

FACT, not wishful thinking. As we used to say in combat, "If a bullet has your name on it, nothing you can do. It's the ones marked 'To whom it may concern' you have to watch out for." And if you're not concerned about yourself, think of the others who have to care for you if you do get sick and the risks they take. The US has not flattened its curve.

I don't think it's big government that will be taking care of you if you get sick due to your own careless actions. It's that exact individualism that takes responsibility for one's actions.

Any combat vet will understand my point about sacrificing for the common good. Example: a listening post. Good for the company set up at night providing advanced warning of an approaching enemy. Not so good for the listening post...

If you want to be a rugged individual, fine. But no hospital or doctor if you do get sick, accept responsibility and take care of yourself.

Hmmm.
I guess there are many little stores & businesses that will gladly go bankrupt or close permanently
for the common good.
Anybody know any businesses willing to do so?

Many people would probably be glad to eat hot dogs and beans for months, for the common good.

Things are much easier of one is in an excellent financial situation, many are not.
