if I recall correctly .... the ME 109 was designed as a jet fighter ..... when Hitler saw a demonstration of the aircraft he told Goring that he wanted the aircraft to operate as a bomber ..... Goring did as he was told ....

I got my aircraft wrong .... the jet was the ME 262 .....
