hood for Olympus 40-150mm PRO lens

Anyone here have a better memory or better search method than I do?
Some time ago there was a discussion about the lens hood for the above mentioned lens. I had just replaced the hood for that lens because it simply fell apart, but not long after, without any encouragement from anyone or anything, it spontaneously fell apart as well. A new hood is close to $60 and I really don't want to spend that much again!
Someone mentioned a Canon (I think) lens hood, that would fit. I just spent half an hour searching UHH for the discussion about that hood, but can't find it.
Could someone steer me to that discussion? Or remember which brand and model of hood was suggested for replacement?
As of yesterday our local camera shop is open again, although limited hours, and I will be stopping there anyway to pick up some other items.

Hi - Same happened to me and a friend... the hood I found is from Fotodiox (their barcode 12759-01765) for replacing the Canon ET-78 II hood used on the EF135mm f2.0L USM / 180mm f3.5L USM lenses.
Not a perfect fit, but usable.
Good luck !

Same problem. After second one fell apart there was no way I was going to get another. Love the lens but the attached hood is wretched. I did not like it from the beginning. Found this in a number of places and purchased through Amazon in January. Very inexpensive. Screws in snugly. I've been using the lens a lot over the past weeks, frequently in brilliant sunshine and have no complaints. Unfortunately it does not fit in reverse direction when not using but that is a minor quibble given the price.

Why don't you just use one of those collapsible rubber ones? They're a lot cheaper, just check Amazon or B&H - just a thought...

Thank you all so much!!
I'm off to the camera shop in a few hours, "armed" with some suggestions.
I'll let you know later today how I fared!

I had the same problem with my Oly lens hood for the 40-150mm PRO lens. Before any interior parts fell out, I screwed it together and then put a few dabs of JB Weld on the seam where the lens hood separates, and that solved the problem permanently.

The Olympus Zuiko 40-150 f2.8 Pro is supposed to be a professional lens. It comes as a surprise to me it has a faulty built in lens shade. Olympus has to know this and I am sure those with issues with the faulty lens shade have complained to them. It is another surprise to me that Olympus has not offer a solution to this problem. In all the reviews I have read the hood's convenience is praised. $60 for a replacement is in my opinion a rip off. The owners of such an expensive lens deserve better.

When I was planning buying I had to make a decision between the cheap amateur model and the professional lens. My thoughts at the time were that the cheap version was more convenient for traveling but what about the quality of the images it produced? Since the lens is so cheap I bought a refurb one. It did not take long for me to fall in love with it. The images were full of detail and sharp even at 150 mm. It was very good for close up photography and I could shoot some nice portraits with it. It was so light and small when not extended that it could be carry anywhere. I did not look back.

My lens has a rubber lens shade as a companion. I have had it for about four years and it continues to serve me well not ceasing to amaze me with the quality of its images.

$60. was the price a few years ago. Now it is $80.
I did stop at the camera store this morning, unfortunately most of the stores in the mall are still closed and the camera store has put almost all of their inventory in storage.
Had a nice chat with the store manager - she's been informed that next week they may be able to open all day again. (2 hrs/day right now).

For now, especially if I'm really careful, I can use the exiting hood, depends on how long the scotch tape holding it together will last....
Another visit coming up next week after I phone and make sure their inventory is back on the shelves!

Follow up:
After the above discussion ended, I got an advertising e-mail from Olympus. This one caught my attention as it was for the 60mm macro and the 40-150 PRO lenses.
Unless there is something in the ads I am really interested in, I delete these e-mails.
So, I send an e-mail back, telling them that have both these lenses and very much like both, except for the sun hood on the 40-150. Told them the story of the sun hood, and that I was checking around for a screw-on alternative.
Less than an hour later I had a response: Apology, there had been a bad batch of these hoods, could I send them a scan of my proof of purchase (long since lost) or a photo of the lens hood and my contact information.
Photo no problem, took one of the hood showing the scotch tape holding it together, and a photo of the serial number on the lens, together with my contact information.
Very shortly after that got another e-mail telling me that a new hood is on the way - without cost to me!
Good thing, because I'm certainly not willing to pay $80 for another piece of plastic....
Will let you all know when the replacement arrives!
