Hmm, I have never encountered that problem, usually they would box it up and ship. or at least send it to the store closet to you.

Yesterday I saw a camera body on line from Best Buy. It is a body only and pick up at store. It is an open box item. Unfortunately the camera is over 100 miles away. I called only to be told the do not ship open box items. Any thoughts?

Just go. It's as good as any reason to get out of the house. Make a day of it. Get lunch and remember the good old days.

Yes, if you want it you will have to drive 200 miles. What, you want us to make decisions for you, GROW UP.

[quote=luvmypets]The most likely explanation is that the stores don't ship. The items that are shipped are coming from a main warehouse. The "open box" item is in the store. Items that are warehoused at the store are for purchasing in store or local delivery (washers, refrigerators).

You should also consider that you will be driving 200 miles....100 there and 100 back so you are looking at (approximately) 4 hours of driving not including the time in the store to make the purchase. Will you be stopping for food or other shopping? If you are spending more in gas, food, and miscellaneous you might be wiser to pay regular price and have it shipped.

If you need to get out of the house and enjoy the opening of your city, county, state then the monetary issue goes out the window.

Best wishes for whatever you decide.

It’s an open box item, and if the price break is good enough, I’d say it would be worth the 2 hour drive to go get it. We recently got a new TV from BB. The TV was an open box set that sold new for over $2000.00. We got it for just under $1000.00. We live 40 miles away, and it was worth the trip in to Anchorage to pick it up.

Haha, but after living in Ak for a while, distances there mean less than, for example, Los Angeles... from Wasilla you would go to Anchorage for a gallon of milk, almost!

Take the drive al look at it - "Open Box" remember... Make sure everything is included as it should be, the condition is "like new", etc. Someone could have previously bought it and used it, - who knows. Amazon sells a lot of open box stuff and truthfully after seeing it, I would rather buy new but that's just me - I've gotten burned in the past. I think "Open Box" is business code for "Returned".... they can't sell it as new anymore...

Normal business practice. If you want it go and pick it up.

Call the store, ask to speak to the manager, be nice explain that you don't want to get out in the current environment and ask for his help. I would probably drive to the store and take photos along the way but I don't mind driving others hate to drive.

It is about $115 using the IRS mileage rate of $0.575. Plus two and a half hours of time. So depending on how you value your time it is $150 to several hundred dollars. How much is the savings?

I bought my first tablet - a Galaxy tab s2 - open box at a 30% discount. Never regretted it. Open box comes with original packaging, full warranty, all accessories that a sealed box would have. For that big a discount on a t,v., I'd drive it, especially now, having been pretty much cooped up in my neighborhood for so long. Enjoy the Drive! It's spring time, after all.

If it's open box, it may have been handled by 100s of curious shoppers. I would want to have hands on before I purchased.
