Dove Lake, Tasmania.
In 1968 after completing a five year Diesel Fitter / Fitter and Machinist apprenticeship I was looking for adventure and wanted to gain experience and knowledge in my trade. I saw an advertisement in a local news paper for Diesel Fitters required to work in a Tin and Copper mine in Tasmania. The mine was located in the rugged North West region and I was immediately awed by the steep, rugged, rain forest clad mountains surrounding the mine site. I am still intrigued as to how early prospectors managed to find their way through the damp tangled forests with fast flowing rivers and almost never ending cold wet weather. Working long hours, often underground, I had little time to explore Tasmania during the six months that I worked in the mine and vowed that I would return to explore what I have since learnt is one of the most picturesque parts of Australia.
In March this year (2020) my wife and I set out on our third trip to Tasmania together and we finally completed the 6km (3.8miles) walk around Dove Lake at the foot of Cradle Mountain. On two previous trips to see Dove Lake the weather was unsuitable for sight-seeing let alone walking.
Dove Lake is located in the Cradle Mountain National Park which in turn is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area located in the West Central region of the island.

The intermittent cloud cover resulted in some interesting light patterns and sometimes challenging photography.

The scenery on the path around the lake was just as interesting as the lake.

As the water that drains into dove lake passes through the surrounding grass lands it takes on the colour of weak tea. Note the two distinctive peaks of Cradle Mountain in the background.

Having frightened another bird from its perch this crow was in no hurry to leave.

Did you get to swim in the lake? Anytime I come upon a lake like that I just have to try it out.
An excellent set. What a way to start off a work career.
Good set, and good memoiries from vacations long ago.
What a beautiful set! Thanks for sharing it and your story.

Thank you for looking kp. Yes, besides the scenic location it was a great start to my working career. By coincidence I finished up being employed by the same engineer in a mine in Western Australia after he had changed employers.

Didn't go swimming jh, despite the sun shine it was not a particularly warm day and the water was icy cold. Thanks for looking.
Thank you for looking Longshadow.

Thank you Richard. We haven't finished with Tasmania yet. We had to cut our holiday short by one week due to those bugs (CVD19) so we intend to return again hopefully next year.
