I love dahlias for their variety of shapes and colors. These photos show 5 different shapes; 3 happen to be of ball form. Of those, photo #3 is of so-called variegated color (striped, in dahlia talk), #4 is "self colored" (1 color), and #5 is bi-colored.

Ha-Ha! It does look like an anemone.
Actually, in the dahlia world there is a form called anemone; here is an example. I agree with you: the bloom in my post looked more like the sea creature than this does.
