Part of my home made focus trap that I use to photograph hummingbirds

I make special backgrounds that I use to photograph hummingbirds. I just made a new one were the image is printed on a rigid Acrylic sheet. The hummingbirds have not shown up yet in my part of the country. I took a test photo of this background where the flash duration only lasts for about 50 microseconds. I had to block most of the light coming from the flash, or the image produced by the flash would have been blown out in the low light that also shows my living room were I'm testing it.

If you are seriously into taking stop action photos of hummingbirds you might find this interesting (or maybe not). I will also use five other flashes to illuminate the bird when it shows up.

I hope a few of you will find this interesting. The image in the focus trap is of an Apple blossom in my yard.

Dave, I looked up your hummer photo from August and I have to say your results reflect the effort you put into your captures. I know I've seen some of your other shots as well and they are really impressive. The detail you capture is simply amazing.

Thank you. It's been a very long and slow process. Every winter I look back at my prior work with a critical eye and think how I could have done it better. This time off year I'm preparing my equipment for the birds arrival. I hope I get a male this year. I had a female last year but she had young. I hope they return this year.
