The masks that the public thinks of / wears will not protect you from covid 19. They will not prevent the spread either.

Their value is in reducing the volume of contamination that an infected individual expels into the air as well as reducing the radius distance of that contamination.

Therefore, masks are worn to help protect others, they are a societal obligation just like not driving while intoxicated or being properly trained if carrying a weapon because potential is just as leathal and should likewise be mandatory.

This is not about you, but protecting others.
Therein lies our future hope.

Well said, and it reitrerates what my wife and I were told bu the visiting nurse and physical therapist who attended me after my back surgery. They both said they wore masks to protect us, that the mask did not actually do much, if anything, to protect them. Even though we, my wife and I, have had very minimal contact with the outside our home world for the past 5 weeks, we still wear a mask so others are protected.

It is logical and common sense, to remain rather isolated during this time of highly probable contamination and cross infection, so that we as a society can continue and eventually be sociable again.

Absolutely right. The nuts that are complaining about the “stay home” orders are only thinking about themselves.

Staying at home (indoors) will stop the spread? What environment will the virus spread in faster, the outdoors or the indoors.

Very good point... Even the N95 masks 'DO NOT' protect 100%. Yes, it will protect from particulates 5um (microns) or greater 99.5%. Unfortunately, virus particulates are small than 5um therefor they will penetrate a N95 mask... As with the 6ft spacing between individuals, let's say if someone sneezes, they can project their particulates up to 10-15ft.... Stay safe!!!

I agree fully.

My wife & I have been here at home for over a month now and have only left to pick up pre-ordered groceries put in the back of our RV for us.

Here at home we have the radio, TV and each other. Kind of like a slightly weird vacation.
We've been married 52 years now and the honeymoon isn't over yet.

I'm 81 and have C.O.P.D. and if I should catch it, I will not recover.

Glad your one of the smart ones, because this appears to be a Darwinian moment. If you’re smart you listen to the real experts and survive, if you’re not smart you listen to “other” sources and you may not make it. This is classical survival of the fittest.

Let me explain it to you, staying indoors will prevent others, who may be infected, from contacting you and your family. Outside, you may come into closer contact with someone who may be infected, thus increasing the probability/possibility of you becoming infected and bringing it back to your family.

That enough reason to stay at home?????

I told my wife something very similar today. I think of the Darwin Awards.

N95 mask offer great protection if fitted properly to the face. During my Respiratory Therapist career I have fitted and performed the sniff test for properly fitted masks many times. Here is a link about the test and a video showing how it's done. We used Saccharin to perform the test. https://www.osha.gov/video/respiratory_protection/fittesting_transcript.html
