I have a couple of these Texas Spiny Lizards sunning on the deck just outside my kitchen door. Their coloring and pattern blends in with the deck boards so I have to be careful not to step on them when I go outside.

Nice. I would think they would be too fast to worry about being stepped on.

This lizard is in the genus Sceloporus.
There are quite a few species, this one is olivaceus.
The southern half of Alabama has S. undulatus undulatus.
The Southern Fence Lizard.
Very similar. Look on fallen trees in direct sun, hot and dry.
They love to sunbathe.
