With a 2X extender the aperture drops to ~f/11 at the long end. Too small for most cameras to auto-focus.

I am most grateful for all of the help I have received about which lens I to buy. I have learned much during the process as well.
I now have the canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6l is ii usm and I am having a great time on a new learning curve. I purchased it from B & H. They provided much help with no pressure.
I look forward to more tips from you as I learn to use this lens.
