HedgeHoggers: For your interest:

Just read SonyAlphaLab online that my Sony FE 16-35mm f2.8 GM has a recall with serial numbers between 1800502 and 1823192.

Symptoms

* The camera may not operate while the lens is attached.

* The camera’s rear screen may not display correctly while lens is attached.

That is about 23,000 lenses... be on the lookout for refurbished lenses at a discount.

No manufacture is free from the recall bug. NO manufacture. Human nature lends itself to this dilemma. If we take the HUMAN element out of the equation, we would have NO recalls. But then, what would you have, machines running everything for us, OH the horror.

Beats the hell out of Sony just ignoring a problem (like some MFg's do)....I'd say that since it is a given range there was either a sourced part/bad lot, or something changed in the manufacturing process....lucky for Sony owners they keep records that let them nail down the bad group, and it will be rectified - be happy, all will be good!!

My brothers and I heard that phrase many times from my father while we were growing up. Always made perfect sense while we were redoing whatever we had not done right the first time.

You actually think Sony made over 23,000 of THAT lens ???

Between those start and end S/Ns you will find a variety of lenses.

The extreme complexity of current cameras and lenses causes me to be surprised that they get it right as much as they do.
I like my brand but am realistic and see this sort of thing across all makes.
It pleases me that they do their best to make things right and kudos to Sony for this round.
Most complex things have problems. Look at the first non-manned rockets blowing up, or Apollo 1. Look at the Boeing 727 had problems and other complex machines.
I even bet even computers have problems at times and software, WOW.
