I just upgraded from CS5 to CS6. The Silver Efex Pro 2 filters, which worked perfectly in CS5, do not show up in CS6. I have sent two e-mail requests for information to NIK but have not heard back from them yet. Does anyone here know if the Silver Efex has to be re-downloaded to make it work in CS6, or otherwise what has to be done to make it work?

Thanks in advance.

You have to go to Nik and download a patch. I had the same problem with Lightroom 4 upgrade

I just did and it completely froze up my CS6. I have to go to Task Manager each time to shut it down. I still haven't contacted NIK to find out what the heck is going on.

According to adobe help there seems to be something amiss currently. My Lightroom 4 cure took a lot of digging and I think a week before I found it. Good Luck!!

I deleted Silver Efex from my computer, and CS6 still freezes up upon opening. My CS5 still works fine. Not certain which software is the problem, will try to contact both companies Monday.

I downloaded the CS6 upgrade - big mistake for me, should have ordered a disc. I might still do that but don't know if it will make a difference.

I have been told, don't know for sure, one can redownload software from the same source because it will recognize you. I would be hesitant personally and yes I myself always pay and wait for a disc for just the possible problem you are experiencing.

That's correct. I've erased and redownloaded the Silver Efex and CS6 each twice to no avail. I'm gonna need to give NIK and/or Adobe a call Monday. I can probably get the President on the phone easier.

Here I go again. Giving an opinion when I'm no expert. So no advice just a recount of my experience. I have found that sometimes when you upgrade adobe PS the new upgrade does not "take across" all your plug-ins and you have to re install the plug-in. This has happened to me with NIK software and alien skin software.
So from my experience I never down load software but always buy the disks. Probably won't help you with your problem but lets you know it's a common problem.

Please be sure to post the fix when you find out. I myself am leaning to upgrading to CS6 from CS5 and I also have Lightroom 3 upgraded to LR4 with the full set of NIK software.

The best thing you can do is call NIK tech support. With a new Mac I wanted to install the old silver effects pro which Mac didn't support. Nik actually took over my computer and installed it for me. I can't say enough times how helpful they were so call.

Does Nik Silver EFEX work with PS Elements? I looked at the web site but couldn't find the answer so I decided to come to the best site for anything involving photography. UHH!

CAVEAT NIK software.... lack of support and a serious 'BUG"

For your information,
Purchased I did -- the full suite of NIK software ( on discs not down loads ).
I utilize a mac desk top with 2 quad core Intel processors & 32 gig ram etc.

My first impression of NIK software was excellent technology... BUT soon I found something -- yes, a "BUG"...! --
One caveat with NIK software, NIK slow to correct the destructive problem of exif date being randomly changed (specifically, the capture time and date ).

When I first brought this "bug" to NIKs attention in 2009, they wanted to know if I wanted to go to work for them. I said no.

It took a year for them to get back to me with a response
-- the response was this: NIKs engineers tried to convince me that it was apples, microsofts, and adobe's software creating the problem.... no fix as of yet that I know of.

Test this yourself --
Process any file using any of NIK's software programs in the suite, and see if your exif data ( time of capture or date changes randomly ). With my background, I am convinced it is a NIK software glitch ( a read write error, etc... ), not Microsoft or Apples or an Adobe causing this problem, although I was using NIK as a plug ins in Aperture, LR, Adobe CS5.

There always work arounds, but when you pay good money for software, it needs & should have GOOD support, especially in correcting a "bug" such as randomly changing the exif data, capture time and capture date.

If you are going to sort your pictures by capture time or date, DO NOT USE NIK software prior to that operation.

No software program should change your exif date, especially capture time and date, without notifying you first !

NIK has not contacted me that they have fixed this "bug", although I have repeatedly asked.

Good Luck to you --
Although I have all of NIK software, I have quit using their programs in any of my work flow.

I now agree 100% re disk vs download, but don't know if the outcome would have been any different.
