Recuva to the rescue.

I thought I had 'LOST. over 100 images (Burned to a DVD) . The disc was showing as Empty. I had worked on some of them in Editor programme, so I knew they had been on the DVD at some stage. I used the Download Programme 'Recuva' and eventually, have got 154 image files back again. Some were Dupes , some were copies of the original Raw, and Jpeg files. If anyone is having trouble with 'LOST' data/ files. try Google 'Recuva' you have nothing to lose. After getting the images back, I decided to purchase the Pro' service to keep ahead of the game. I have posted this Thread in the hopes that someone else's (LOST) images can be 'Recuvered'. I do not know HOW the original images got removed / sabotaged/ lost from the original DVD, so don't ask. I had only backed up the few I had worked - on a few weeks ago.

Interesting! I knew that Recuva worked on SD cards but I didn't realize it also works on DVDs, and, presumably, other media such as pen drives. Good to know!
Don't know what your exact circumstances were, but, this underscores the need to always double check your back-up before deleting images.

I had backed-up the images taken from the card, onto the DVD, and worked on one or two , in PS, then Saved into My Pictures, and a USB drive stick. Later, I discovered the DVD announced itself as "NO DATA" . HOW, and WHY I do not know. It's a mystery.

Was it a Rewritable DVD, if so accidentally hitting delete while the disc drive was high lighted could have done it.

A couple decades ago I was backing stuff up to CD/DVDs. When rewritable disks came out I tried a few out. They worked but I didn't think they worked all that well so I gave up on them. After about 3 years some of the CD/DVDs were unreadable. Maybe about 5%. I tried the rewritable disks and they were ALL unreadable. It was a small sample (about a dozen) but I never trusted them enough to put anything really valuable on them. At the same time, the CD/DVDs were starting to fail, so I stopped trusting my data to them also.

Sorry....I have just checked the 'faulty' disc...It is in fact, a CD-R 52x A+ Grade. The Recuvered images are now on a DVD +R 4.7GB , and in a File on My Pictures in the computer. Think I will also put them on my external drive, now.

Have re-checked the set of recovered images in 'My Pictures' and the number from 1032 to 1056 . That is 24 images. Not sure how the recovered file was bumped up to over 100 images. Some have the file number plus 1. 2. 3. etc some are Jpegs others are not. I was eager to recover the set of pictures, as I was testing-out some of my Vintage Leica lenses on the Sony camera. Attached is one recovered shot using the 1950's Summaron 35mm F/ 3.5 taken at f/8.
