It seems that at least one of our aircraft carriers is in trouble due to covid-19. Any opinions on how an aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean, anywhere in the world, can be attacked by this virus?

Because they recently had a port call in Vietnam.

Five days. And that ship can receive aircraft while at sea...

Have you ever heard of liberty. That's when a ship pulls into a port, and allows free off ship for a period of time.... And happened JUST BEFORE the known outbreak. And they recurve supply's by aircraft.....

This virus, just like the flu, will attack EVERYONE. it's not a matter of if you get it, it's a matter of when...... Just hope your when is after the vaccine, and better treatments are developed.

Military personnel are coming and going all the time on a carrier. Infection could occur from such air traffic.

Carriers have from 3000 to 5000 sailors and pilots on board. A constant supply of food and other supplies is required to support these people. Replacements come and go constantly as well as folks needing medical attention beyond the scope of the on-board medical staff. The pilots go to shore and get liberty while there.
Any ship at sea is not a closed system. Except a nuke sub of course.

Really? I can't remember the last time I got the flu. Sure, I get the double strength flu shot, but it reduces the risk by, at best, 40%. So what is special about this virus that guarantees that *everyone* will get it eventually?

Never had a flu shot or had the flue, at least no symptoms. Not everyone is as susceptible is my guess. On the other hand been diagnosed 3x with caner. Dr. tells me, except for cancer I'm healthy!

It is good to read that the aircraft carrier is heading to port to unload everyone. The captain did the right thing.

Saw an article the other day talking about our nuclear subs. Once they dive they get no outside news till they resurface months later. Did you see the group that had gone down the grand canyon and didn't know this had happened for a month.
