When using shorter lenses, I may tend to "zoom with my feet" more frequently, but there's nothing wrong with that unless you are somehow prohibited from getting closer to your subject.

I have had the opposite problem much more often - not being able to back up - so my kit now includes a UWA lens.

I have a camera body per lens because I hate that when I'm changing lenses, dust can enter the camera. I like to get lenses that are dust and weather sealed for that reason also.

Amen. But I keep to a 2-lens limit and Sony a6xxx or smaller m4/3 bodies for that approach. Always matching twin bodies acoarst and the Sonys are not for monsoons ... don’t get many of those so no problem !

Since I don’t get up before noon ... and since the midday light is boring ... this “ready to go” thing is a kinda nonissue for me. Sometimes I catch a sunrise left over from an all-nighter but then there’s big scary eagles and stuff so I don’t like to be outside without my giant zoom lens so I can wackum upside the head when they get too close. I study all the uhh threads about which zooms are best for eagles. Thanx, hoggerz !

PS
Never waste a wacked eagle. Encon/EPA/DEC/etc like to check their mercury levels.
