Wondering about anyone's experience using this lens as a single all around, relatively light weight travel lens versus taking two or three other lenses to cover the same range?
It is a great all around lens, but it isn't light weight. I bought this lens when I first started and now I find I have trouble holding it steady. I now only use it on a tripod with extender to get moon shots.
Good walkabout lens. Used it on a holiday to the Galapagos with good results.
I have used my DX18-300 3.5-6.3G ED VR for years. It stays on my D5300 most of the time. Both camera and lens are light weight and a great combo as a walk around. Occasionally I will put this DX lens on my D850. Some say it is a heavy lens, it is not. I won't be giving up this lens, it's a great lens for one size fits all. Do you have a DSLR or is the Z50 your only camera? If you have both, we will be more than happy to spend your money. I have 5 DX lenses, the others pretty much collect dust. The 18-300 is my go to lens. Continue your research. The choice is yours.
I love my Nikon 18-300 and use it for 90% of my travel photos. It is the 3.5-5.6 which is slightly heavier and more expensive, but has gotten better reviews than the lighter 3.5-6.3. Feel free to check my posts for examples.

I am old school. REALY old school. On a recently completed cruise from Sydney, AU to the N&S islands of New Zealand, I took my original D200 w/this lens, and my N90s w/50mm 1:1.4D shooting 400 ISO for low light. The 18-300 was fabulous at both ends of the focus range with the sweet spot between 70 and about 210. Lost a little crispness at the long end, but as stated earlier post-processing took care of that. Very happy with this lens. Best addition I have made to my camera pack. Someday I might upgrade my cameras, but they do what I ask of them and yield good results if I'm at the top of my game.

I intend to mount this lens on Nikon Z50 with the FTZ adapter. My chief concern is image quality though I know that a super zoom like this will necessitate some compromise in this regard. I just don't want to spend $ on poor-fair lens and certainly can wait for the Z mount 24-200 full frame lens (which would be a 36-300mm lens on the Z50 crop sensor) coming out purportedly next month if nothing interferes with it's release. The 18-300 offers a better range, availability, similar weight and is ~1/2 the price and would be a good single lens solution for travel for me unless you Ugly Hedgehogs feel it is not worthy. Thanks for your comments and advice.

I have used the 18-300mm for years now and I love it! Very sharp and an all around good lens. I have printed 16x20” prints. You will not be disappointed 😊
I have used this lens for several years now. It is very sharp and an all around good lens. Great if you only want to carry one versatile lens. I have printed up to 16x20” prints and have gotten several awards for pictures using this lens. You will not be disappointed 😊. Although I have 6 lenses, this one gets used the most.

it's a good lens. bought it for trip to Italy. didn't go yet was supposed to last summer. not sure now even this summer. maybe next summer. anyway been using it a lot anyway on both my D3300/500. and its cheaper than the 18-300 3.5/5.6 . not a pro shooter so I didn't need the extra f/0.7 difference. good luck.
