Lightroom Classic Problem

Today when I opened LR I got the import dialog. It normally opens to where I last was working. I am unable to get out of the import dialogue. If I hit import all of my folders come up but my only option is to import. If I hit cancel it goes back to the import dialogue. Am I having a senior moment? If so can someone help me out of it?

I should add that under catalog on the left side of the screen it shows 0 photos. It's as though I'm using LR for the first time and it wants me to import all of my 40000 photos again.

Find your catalog file. It has a .lrcat extension. Double click on that and see if it opens with the catalog.

It opens but with the same result. Just the import dialogue.

If, by chance, you moved all your photos, you will have to sync the catalog to the new location...

Lightroom's "catalog" is a database. Lightroom only POINTS to your image files. It NEVER changes any of your originals. It only stores instructions from the Develop Module that are applied when you Export, Print, Make a Book, post images to the Web, etc. AND it stores proxies of your images that are used for screen viewing only. They are rebuilt with each change you make in Develop.

Go to Catalog Settings —> General and make sure the catalog listed there is actually linked to its current location on your drive.

Also check all your Auto Import settings. (File —> Auto Import)

In the left-hand column of the Library Module, check that all the file locations listed are correct for the images' current locations. If you see a question mark, the files have been moved.

When you move your files, the catalog loses track of them.

A couple of weeks ago I found myself in the same situation.
At this point I forget what operation I was trying to perform and I equally forget how I got out of it.
Get out of it I did and all my work was still there...
I do remember a few " What did I manage to do?" though.

You will get your work back I am pretty confident.
Sorry I can't help w the details though.

When I started Lightroom this morning all I got was a message saying lrcat can not be opened because another program is using it. There were no other programs open so I rebooted my computer and now it works fine.

To open LR and be sure you are in the correct catalog hold down the option or alt key the entire time as you click open the program. This will bring up a box that shows all of your catalogs. Choose the correct catalog from that box and open it. If you still have the problem you should contact Adobe help as non of us can actually see what is happening on your computer and they can do that from their office.
