I make no apologies for the poor focus. The woman's slight smile, the child's curiosity and trust, in my opinion, negates any shortcomings. What are your thoughts?

It works for me.
In this image content overides technical considerations.

Graham, once again you've captured life as it happens. That is the important thing here. The interaction between the two subjects is the crucial aspect and it was caught clearly enough to express the story. It also adds mystery in that one might wonder if the two people are related. The story each viewer sees is unique and completes the photograph.

Terrific. The kind of photo that keeps giving.

Could have been a superb study but not enough there to overcome the obvious technical shortcomings.

Thanks very much for your casting your eye over it and for supporting my opinion that content, providing that the picture is "readable" edges above its failings.

I think it’s a great capture of the moment. Sometimes, like this instance, content far overshadows mechanics.

Gee , couldn’t you ask them both to be a bit more cooperative. Get rid of that cup on the ground. Have the child a bit closer as she reaches out. Have her grandmother also extending her arm as she reaches for her grandchild.
Other than that very nice capture.

As a capture of a slice of life (which you do so well), this is a really nice shot. I think it does prove that content outweighs technical perfection.

I will do everything you suggest Frank... but the cup stays

The child was with someone else

Thanks, AzPicLady. It would cause me no upset if, in future, all I could photograph people in their environment. I'm a people person

Thank you Graham for pointing out the child was with someone else. My thoughts were that the woman might have been a grandmother but probably not. The child is seemingly not WITH the woman but is still reaching out to her with the woman looking on with a smile of approval. I believe the woman most likely IS a grandmother and knows children. Many of us have probably had children of others come to us and hold our pant leg while looking up at the new person. It gives most a feeling of love from a child.

A very well done photo.

Thank you Graham for pointing out the child was wi... (show quote)

Thanks, Dennis, a child's natural curiosity knows no bounds, it was fascinated by the knitting, probably baby clothes for a grandchild.
