This is a preserved Mantis from the Bill (newtoyou) collection staged for a focus stacking session. It's a good "stay indoors day" today so it provides me the opportunity to put my setup back to a way that I normally keep it and of course, I have to try it out.

A dorsal neck view. Something new, sippy.

Thanks, Kpmac. I thought that the tendons on the back of the neck and the back view of its mouth parts would provide a different perspective of one of my specimens that I've used before in other views.

Thanks, Mark. Not the beauties of nature that you are known for however it shows details that some may not have seen before.

Thanks, just wanted to do something a bit different and to show the mouthparts which can't be seen from a front view.

Thanks, Greg. Their mouthparts are quite complex and they use them much like we would use our fingers to eat. They hold their prey with their powerful forelegs and bite into it and use the little finger like mouthparts to pick small pieces and put them into their mouth...."finger food!".

Thanks, I enjoy looking at nature's work in magnified ways to reveal details that I can not see otherwise such as the leathery texture of its skin and the tendons on the back of the neck.
