A while ago I noticed some unconnected photos Id taken with a Sony rx100m3 had miraculously turned up in google photos. At the time I didnt use google photos and neither had I downloaded a Sony app which Ive since read can enable you to upload photos via wifi directly from the camera.
There seems to be no logical explanation and its bugging me.
Any ideas from any budding Sherlock Holmes' out there would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess that you transferred those photos to your cellphone and then Google Photos uploaded them automatically.
Not sure how that would work in iOS. In Android probably the first time a pop-up from Google Photos offered to sync a new folder (where you placed the transferred photos) and you accepted.

As I started my reply....."I would guess".

And you didn't use any Sony app to remote control or configure your camera from your cellphone?

Sorry, but I can't think of any other reason why those photos appeared in Google Photos.
Hope you get to the bottom of this, please share here if you do :)

And you never downloaded them to a computer or uploaded them to social media either? They were only on your camera?

Hi...yes I downloaded them onto my mac as I always do...but that was it. It was just these particular photos that ended up on google photos. Others that I've taken with that camera havnt.
Its a mystery and Ill probably never solve it.
Thanks for your interest anyway

Google's business model is largely theft-based. So Google is constantly experimenting with new methods of infringement, snooping, and theft of intellectual property. That is a general answer; I am not privy to specifics of your situation.

If you have shared the photos with someone else using some messaging app like WhatsApp they could end up on google from the other person's phone. For example my wife and myself sync up our photos to same google photos account. Her phone automatically uploads images from WhatsApp so anything I share with her or with other groups where she is a member ends up in Google
