An old farm in Ireland where they do demonstrations of herding dogs. Several of the buildings are original to the farm.

Great pics William.

Love the one of the fireplace. Could be straight out of my Granny's house in the West of Ireland. She was still cooking on an open turf fire like that one well into the '60's. The iron swing arm was called a crane. She controlled the cooking heat by adjusting the height of the interlocking hangers. The corner 'hobs' kept the food warm in the three legged pots until the men came in for dinner at 1:00 sharp and listened to the news on the Grundig 'wireless' tube radio while eating in silence. The kettle on the stand in front of the fire ensured that nobody ever had to wait more than 5 minutes for a cup of hot tea. Soda bread was baked in a shallow cast iron lidded pot. The pot lid would be covered over with embers and the whole thing smothered with a pile of ashes. The warm bread was delicious with butter and home-made blackcurrant jam. When I stayed with her she would have to buy 'store' butter for me because I was a spoiled city boy and wouldn't eat her home churned butter. At night time, the turf embers would be 'banked' in ashes. They would stay lit all night and keep the kitchen warm and would 'raked' back to life to start a fresh fire in the morning. The pot of oatmeal left beside the bank would be nicely cooked in the morning.

It was a hard life but she lived to 96 years of age.

Thanks for bringing back fond memories of my childhood.
