New Lens Outdoors - Getting Practice

I recently got a Nikon Z6 to use as my Every Day Carry Camera so that I could preserve my Nikon D810 for specific needs.

I mounted the 85mm f/2.8 1X-5X manual macro lens and took a picture of the tiny blossoms that are starting to dot our yard.

This is a 5X view and I focused on the reproductive parts so the peddles of the flower itself will look a bit soft with the very shallow depth of field. I placed a dime next to the blossom to provide a reference for the size of the blossom. Focusing on the dime of course puts the blossom way out of focus yet you can see its size comparison.

Thanks, Kpmac. I don't know what they are although anything with color is a welcome sight now.

Have fun with the lens! I'm sort of on the opposite end of the scale right now since I have a new wide angle macro lens to play with, once the weather starts getting warmer. Neither of these lenses are easy to work with!

A good start Gary, I assume this lens has a very tiny depth of field. I can see some stacking coming on.

Oh Mark, a wide angle macro was one of my first considerations and I really, really like what they can do. My reservation was the working distance for me and I have a difficult time holding still the way it is.

The working distance is one challenge. The view while using it is another. Imagine looking through the wrong end of a telescope or binoculars, and trying to zero in on a subject. My plan is to be patient.

Mark, I am confident that you will master wide angle macro photography. It is unique to all other types and the views that it produces are truly stunning. Taking videos with the wide angle macro lens are unlike anything else possible.
