I got a new computer and I was told I must use HDMI output not VGA. I have the proper setup, HDMI from computer to modem but when I turn it on the desktop is over scanned by at least one inch. my screen resolution is 1920-1080 the recommended setting. I have tried other settings. I am not a computer person but I have set up VGA systems, this is my first try at HDMI systems and I am lost. you can see by the photo no task bar left side and upper info missing. I need help. Thanks in advance. REJ.

Typically there is a separate program installed by the video card manufacturer on the computer. You might check here, to see if there is a conflict with the Windows Display settings.
Type in" Control Panel" in the bottom left search bar of your desktop, open this, look for a specific program for the video card. Open this, and check these settings.
Hope I made this make sense and it might help. Happened to me once.

What is the screen size and aspect ratio of your monitor? The resolution you have chosen (1920x1080) is designed for a screen with an aspect ratio of 16x9. If your monitor has a different aspect ratio, you have a couple of choices (other than buying a new monitor). First, does your monitor have adjustments in the menu for size and centering? If so, adjust the size to fit the screen. If not, pick a different resolution other than 1920x1080. You can chose the resolution either in your video card’s settings ap, or by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing properties.

You don't say which operating system you have, but on windows, go to a blank spot on the screen, right click on the mouse and select "display settings." That should give you options to set up the screen to match the monitor.

Adjustment toggle on lower right corner. About directly behind where the date and time is. That is the monitor menu system.

That sounds like you need to adjust your monitor. The 1920x1080 or the hdmi is not the problem.

Monitors have adjustment controls for the display to do height/width adjustments and centering. If you have a model number for your monitor you can just google it and find where the controls are.

Getting the screen right can be a nuisance with a new component. I use the Windows settings - trying different resolutions until I get it right. I reinstalled Windows last week, and it guessed at the wrong resolution, so I changed it.

What everyone else said.

As to your first sentence....well, you'd HAVE to use HDMI output from computer if that's the ONLY input on your monitor. Otherwise, you just have to have matching input and output choices. If you have an older monitor that only has VGA input, it is certainly usable, because a computer without VGA is rare.

From the appearance it looks like that setting was for a widescreen monitor unlike yours. Glad someone gave you the solution.
