Helping a "newbie" who is trying to upload larger files via Gmail

A bird club friend of mine says it takes forever to try to upload 15MB bird pix a file share site. I am getting further details from her, but want to offer an "entry" level option for her. Any thoughts? Obviously, this is a broad request. Kind answers appreciated.

1. Check the speed of her internet connection
2. Check the speed of her wifi connection
3. What is the file share site?
4. Sending from smartphone or computer?

Adding to bsprague's list, is there a virus program involved?

How does one upload a file to a website via gmail? I only know the "direct" way, computer to website by drag/drop or click the appropriate button for attach file/upload.

My modem speed test just assured me it would take less than two seconds for a 15mb file, though I seem to recall Dropbox being slower at times. We do need more info when you get it. Thanks!

15MB is a pretty big file. What is the purpose of the upload? If they are editing or printing, ok, but just for display on TV, Computer or Cell phone screen, the file should be sized down a LOT before transfer.

Use DropBox. I have been using for years without a single glitch.

"Use DropBox. I have been using for years without a single glitch."

If you read the original post, it suggests the person needing help is trying to put photographs on a picture sharing website.

I suspect you are not "uploading" in the classical sense but emailing. I tried emailing an 8 MB photo via gmail and it appeared to happen instantaneously. If your network (Internet Service Provider [ISP], router, Network Interface Card [NIC]) or computer is very slow, it can appear slow.

Some email providers have limits on the sizes of attached files...both for individual files and for total attached bytes. Exceeding this limit will sometimes result in an error message and sometimes result in the email program just appearing "stuck." It would be a worthwhile thing to have your friend verify whether there are file attachment restrictions imposed by her email provider.

Please do get the details of exactly what she is doing.
Gmail in itself is an email client. Some are horrendously slow.

Even with a really slow upload speed of 10 Mb, you should be able to upload in less than 15 seconds to any reasonable cloud site.

To those kind enough to offer your thoughts... just know that all of your info played a part in leading to this response from the 40 year-old excellent photographer that wanted help with a part of the game that was holding her back from expanding her skills to include posting pix on various sites.

Her response: " I am so excited to tell you that I was able to resize 80 pictures! Googling “how to resize photos on Mac” came up with an alternative where you customize an app using “Automator” that is already loaded on the Mac. After step by step I now have one that will resize a batch of 50 in less that a minute. Wow. You inspired me to find a way to make it work! It is good to make this old brain work sometimes.
Thanks for your support!"

I didn't want to give her the answers, so I needed your assist to give her direction. Thanks to all of you I fed her info to keep her going to advance in her photographic and post-processing efforts. Obviously, she picked up the ball and ran with it. You, UHH friends, helped me help her. She's gained confidence in numerous ways I doubt she has realized yet. Haven't we all at times.

I am, however, truly disappointed that the admin thought SO LITTLE of this topic to THROW it in the "General Chit-Chat (non photography talk) category. As a member of UHH since 2011, I have never felt rebuffed to this degree. I am many things, but an idle Chit-Chatter--that's not why I seriously seek help on behalf of others.

Why?
It has more to do with transmittal of files (data) than actual photography, even though they are photographic files.
But that's just my opinion.
