This is not professional photography or in fact is it a good representation of what the camera can do.

I just received my new camera ;charged its batteries, took a couple of test pictures and started my printer printing out the 200 page PDF owners instruction manual. I will put it in a three ring note book where I will also make notes. My first impression of the FZ200 was good. I like the size and feel and the quality. The first two pictures I shot will not complete with my DSLR especially the macros. They are much better with my 50 mm 1:2 lens attached to my DSLR but the distance photography is superb with the FZ200. However, if I purchase a close up lens and adapter they tell me I can shoot closer up. I think I will pass on that and keep my DSLR that the only reason I put it in retirement because I became too old or perhaps too lazy to haul around two bags of lens to take photographs. These two photographs were taken without any preparation just point and shoot. The first two.

I can't see why you would need to purchase a close up lens and adapter (and I'm not even sure you can, but I will take your word for it). If you click the Macro focus button on the lens, you can focus down to 1cm. How much closer do you need to be? I got my FZ200 last week, and am very pleased with it.

The basic Owner's Manual page 33 tells about the close up lens and adapter however, I am pleased with the FZ200. I will keep my DSLR 50mm 1:2 macro and my 35mm 1:1 they do the job that I desire in close-up photography. This, like I said will lighten my load of lens's and equipment considerably; it appears to be a good walk around camera.

Or you could get a Raynox and just clip it on to your FZ200 when needed.
