Consider..

If

The virus is not contained and breaks loose in our country (not an unreasonable assumption). And a lot of people go to the hospital, and a lot of people die (pick your number - 330 million people 1/3 infected = 100 million. 1/2 of one percent death toll = 500 thousand dead.

Will your vaccine cost 200 dollars? Will it cost 5000 dollars? Will it be free?

What about your hospital bill (assuming you went to the hospital and survived - probably a very infectious place to be). Will your insurance pick up the tab? Will the insurance companies say "so sorry" - just to survive? Will they go bankrupt?

And assuming they picked up the tab and survived bankruptcy, what will your policy cost next year??

Have you gone shopping for supplies yet? What will your baseline isolate yourself supplies cost you now? What will it cost in three months??

I don't see the point. Is someone able to look into the future and give accurate answers?

I don't expect that from you, no.. or from anyone else for that matter. Yes, you are right, since no one can possibly predict the future, this is not worth talking about or planning for.

If you were offended, I apologize. My point is, you and I, or for that matter average Americans are NOT the planners. We are not City department leaders, government leaders, etc. Plans are in place for this type of thing. It is like earth quake planning, the government has a plan in place, not individual citizens, beyond earth quake preparedness that can happen from loss of power, the need for food, etc.

I am not offended at all. But you raise my very point. Since these things in theory Have been planned for, I am wondering what those plans are. And while perhaps we don't even know what those plans are, certainly we should have input and thoughts regarding what those plans Should be?

But your answer of "Americans are NOT the planners", surprises me. Is America already a country where Americans are not to have input? Are we already but worms in a dictatorship?

Also, I question the wisdom of not releasing the "plan". Would we not be better off knowing what the "plan" was so that we could Plan for the plan?

Three months will tell us all if this is going to blow by, or if this is going to blow through.

The attic is a place of politics... And some very smart people are here. So let's turn the question into a political question. What should the Vaccine cost?

Unfortunately any natural disaster/pandemic will have to be handled in slightly to radically different ways.

As I said, the government has planned for many emergency situations. Each and Every government or city department that deals with the public has a plan. Contact your city leaders and see if they will release the plan. I doubt it, but you could try.

Americans are not the planners means people that do not work for the city or any type of government that is not in the field of giving assistance, will not be planning. Police, Fire, etc would give assistance and have a plan to follow.

How do you know the vaccine will have a cost? How do you know insurance will not pay?

As I stated, there is a plan in place and that is the plan that will be followed. Cities and governments do not reach out to the untrained masses to get their opinions. That would be like a hospital asking the public to plan an emergency room that is being added. Things don't happen that way. There is a process.

yes - precisely. Take the future vaccine for instance - politically speaking, some will want to charge a very large price - because we live in a system where those that Can, Do. I am hopeful that the government we have at that time will say "it is important (perhaps even mandatory), for Everyone to have this Vaccine - so the price of it will be handled in a Fair way" (what is Fair is of course is very debatable).

Here is another question... Food for Thought - Will we have an election in November that allows for "remote voting"? By then, it will be very possible that public gatherings are not allowed and that going into public unnecessarily is a dangerous thing to do.

I suspect it would be free - though I imagine it is not yet available in a form considered safe.

No -- reaching out to the untrained masses is what we call Elections and Voting.

edit -- and the convincing of the untrained masses for how to vote, we call the attic.

I guess I don't understand how you want the government to include you in planning for national or natural disasters.

between you and me, the plans we have are politized and will be acted upon in a fashion to gain and to maintain power, not because it is the right thing to do.

Of course I don't expect the government to include me in such - but I do expect the government to act promptly and in a fashion that safeguards me - that IS... I hold the government responsible and expect the government to do the right thing.
