Colorado Rock Squirrel - or it would be if it was in Colorado. The change in coloration at the "belt line" is always a good clue as far as I'm concerned. These things are amazingly strong. I offered a pecan to one a few summers ago (but held onto it as best I could) - this guy ripped it from my fingers. I was surprised with its strength.

Odd circular black patch on their backs. No rocks here. Some kind of ground squirrel I think. Thanks for looking, Ron.
