I don’t know what makes you say that. I agree that Nikon was late to the game with mirrorless, but they’ve made some design decisions that position them to leapfrog Sony and Canon. Many of the early issues with the Z6 and Z7 have been corrected with firmware updates and despite no IBIS in the Z50 they seem to have hit it out of the park.

Yes, Nikon and Canon were both late getting into the mirrorless game but no camera company can compete with Nikon and Canon's color rendition of their cameras, both have been in the camera business a very long time and highly competitive of each other. I've heard it being said that once Nikon and Canon jump in the mirrorless business with both feet...Sony can get back in the television business. But i wouldn't go that far.

I think, for me, once I make the switch to full frame I will not need to go back to a DX system. Since I started using the Fuji I tend to grab that camera first, not because it is a better camera, but mostly for weight and size. People don't seem to "see" me taking pics with the smaller camera on the street.

I've thought about moving up to Fuji but think my options are better with Sony.

I gave the D5000 to my husband and he likes the 18-300 lens. I never use it because it is all menu driven, but he uses it on auto and it takes great pictures.

Everybody complains about the menu system of the Sony. Honestly, there’s a learning curve for all the cameras menus. Once you set it up, you rarely have to dive into the menus. The items you use the most can just be put into the “My Menu” option.

I think Sony is the leader in mirrorless. My first Sony was the a6000. I loved that little camera and had I kept it, I wouldn’t have bought the a6400. Also, when I bought my Sony a7iii, the NIKON z6 & z7 weren’t out yet. I never buy the first version of anything either. They have a long ways to go to pass up Sony, IMHO

Is "My Menu" a reduced size menu??

I also would like to go full frame from my D7100 and have a good collection of lens which causes concern. Nikon may not be at the top of the field now but I read this past week that rumor has it that there will be a replacement to the Z6 and Z7 possibly by the end of the year. I think their second generation may make me sorry if I were to switch away from Nikon now. The Z series lens is expanding and they have a lens I think it was 24 - 200 that would meet my every need at the present time.

I have the current Z7, and I have pre-ordered the 24-200. I hope to receive it within the next month or two. I am very excited about the new lens, and I adore my Z7. I am a lady and a hacker. I hear some people denigrating the Z7; I love mine, and it produces amazing pictures. I am thrilled with it. The Z7 is very user friendly, and it has helped me steadily improve my skills. Of course I still have much to learn, but I enjoy the learning and I approach it with eagerness. The adapter, which is very easy to use will allow you to use your DX lenses(with cropped results) with the Z, and you could gradually add FX lenses to your arsenal, Z lenses and regular FX lenses, if you choose. The Z7 was the 1918 and 1919 Camera of the Year. It is a great camera, and I would recommend renting one for a week or two, and renting the Sony for a week or two before you make up your mind. My store allowed me to try the Sony when I thought I wanted to travel with a smaller camera. To my eye, it didn’t compare to the color produced by Z. I know both are great cameras, and you’ll be pleased with whatever you choose. Happy hunting.

I currently shoot a D500 (D7200 backup), mostly with an 18-300.
I have other lens, both DX ad FX. I have not seen any reason
to be looking at any upgrades at this time.

The Nikon D7500 is the best of both the D7200 and the D500. You get great autofocus speed and fast frame rate from the D500 and you get to keep the full magnesium body and user settings (U1 and U2) of the D7200 plus you get the flipping rear screen. I'd rent a D7500 for about a week as you already have the lenses and see if it's a good fit first. I shoot on Nikon for the color rendition as Nikon's engineers have figured out how to get the best colors from a Sony sensor (Sony still hasn't perfected it yet). All of your lenses you would still get to use saving you from all new purchases and extending your current investment.

I was thinking of getting a used D7200 as my D300s is getting tired (and it's heavier than my D600) but after trying that tilt screen I'm hooked. If you have a Best Buy credit card you can get one with 0% for 6 months same as cash.

Another interesting spin. The D7500 is a fine camera, but it’s not “the best of both”. The D7500 does NOT have the the high speed focusing and frame rate of the D500. Not only is the D500 2 fps faster, but it’s buffer is 4x the size. The D500 has 153 focus points with 99 cross-type compared to 51 and 15. It’s LCD screen has over 2x the resolution. And it’s the D500 that has the superior build. It’s the one that’s a magnesium alloy and built as a pro level camera. The D7500 is a carbon fiber composite. Yes, the D7500 is a great camera, but it’s no D500.

Isn’t the same focusing module shared by the D5, D500, D850, and the D7500??

You populate it with any item from any menu. You can have many pages and organize it any way you want. I kept mine to no more than 2 pages.

The D5, D500 and D850 have the same module. The D7500 is the same as the D7200.

I prefer to avoid menu systems altogether, which is what what my Pentax KP largely does. It allows me to assign the e-wheels such that I have complete control of all three arms of the exposure triangle while keeping the camera at my eye.

My thanks to all who took the time to reply ... I have my work cut out for me and I'm sure I will make a choice in the near future. As I did before I bought my Fuji, I looked at a few different cameras and I am happy with my choice of the X100F.
