I recently was given a 1984 era Minolta X-370. This was an entry level camera back then. It came with a Minolta 50mm f1.7 and two Sears lenses. The Sears lenses, are an 80-200 f 4.0 Macro and a 60-300 f4.0-5.6 macro. As I understand it, I can pick up an adaptor to mount these MD lenses on a Nikon F mount . I currently have D7100, a D3400, a D3000, and a D40X. I'm interested in doing this as I want the macro ability. The lenses are full manual. I will have to set aperture on the lens and use manual focus. I'm fairly certain Sears didn't make their own lenses. Does anyone on the hog have any experience with lenses from Sears? I'll probably do this just as a learning experience as the adapter is not very expensive. Any input is appreciated.

I have a Montgomery Ward badged 28mm vintage lens which renders beautifully on my Fuji X-H1. Not sure who the manufacturer was, possibly Vivitar. Sears most likely was either Tokina or Ricoh.
One thing to note though, these vintage lenses get their best results on mirrorless cameras vs DSLRs.

I don't know whether this helps, but back in the 80's I bought Sears photo equipment and it was Pentax K. I had a Sears K1000 which was identical to my Pentax K1000 I had earlier.
I have a Sears 135 2.8 lens, basically new/unused. It came with a like-new Sears KS2, also with the K-mount 50mm Sears on the body, all for the princely sum of $25.00! Made in Japan, seems to have decent quality. Years ago, I did try a cheap, uncoated optic that tackily adapted a non-Nikon lens to my Nikon FM. The images did not look right; color off, a lot of flare, not sharp.

None of those lenses is able to shoot macro! That's just an advertising jargon to lure people (yeah, just like you, you took the bite). All this means is, these lenses have a fairly close minimum focusing range!

It's not like he took the bite. The lenses were given to him. Gift horse and all that.
You can buy used, "fully manual" Nikkor AI lenses for a little more than $100 (or lenses). You must have pawn/used camera shops nearby. (I've got at least three within 5 miles of me.) Once you tell your Nikon DSLR what the lens focal length and max aperture are, you won't even have to worry about exposure - just focus.
Don't do it! Lens technology has advanced so much in the past 35 years, that yesterday's best lens is only comparable to today's entry lever lenses. If prices are a concern, buy used from KEH, B&H, or Atotrama, and get lenses only a few years old.

People who buy vintage lenses are not buying them for the technology. They’re buying them for their rendering character.

I have the Sears 80-200 lens and use a Fotodiox for my Canon SL2 Here is a image from it I took in Dec using it.
I have tried mounting my old Minolta lens' on my D7200 with an adapter. Not worth the effort.

I would love to see a picture of your Sears/Kiron lens.
Thanks
