Has anyone had any exposure to the new olympus camera? Does anyone here use the OMD EM1 Mar II? What is your opinion of this system. Seems they kept the same 20mp sensor, but added alot of bells and whistles. Wondering what people think to the micro 4/3rds system of olympus in reference to resolution, usability etc....

I have owned a pair of OMD EM5 II's since 2015 and it is a good system and meets my current needs.

Have EM1 m2. Love it, it meets all my needs. OK, full frame may have better low light capability but that doesn't affect me in particular.

I do have the OM-D EM1 mark ii. It's a remarkable camera system. I am never been disappointed in my results. I won't be upgrading (right now) to the mark iii. Only because The mark ii covers my needs very well and also I just bought the em5 mark iii (upgrading from my em5 mark ii). I use that camera more because I prefer the smaller footprint (lighter, smaller) carry camera. Pro work or major events I use the em1 mark ii.
Street camera I tend to lean more towards the em10 mark iii. If it were my first adventure into Olympus, I wanted the one that does it all I would buy the em1 mark iii. The x1 engine, with hand held high res. and pro capture are enough. Humble opinion is that Olympus is correcting there mistake in making the x1 to big. Now same power in a smaller camera (keeping it with in the MFT tradition). Hope this helps. Good luck happy shooting :):

I have the EM-5 mark ii, and I love it. Olympus makes great cameras and lenses. I also have full frame Sony and they have distinct uses. What is your need, and that will determine everything. Quality is not an issue!

Thanks, it seems like a remarkable camera. Question the small 20mp sensor? Resolution. Any shots?

The Nikon D500 is "only" 20mp also.

Realize that the 20 mp sensor is half the size of full frame, so it would have the density of a 40mp full frame sensor. My EM-5 ii is 16 mp and has the sharpest shots I have ever gotten.

Hi Calvin. I have been shooting M43 for years (as well as FF and APS-C). M43 has been my go-to travel and adventure kit. A couple years ago I bought an OM-D EM5 Mii. Olympus has long model names. I LOVE that camera. It quickly became my carry every day camera as well and I have it in hand more than any other. There is a plethora of M43 glass available including more recently, fast pro lenses. And Olympus glass is outstanding.

M43 is smaller, lighter, cheaper. 97% of the IQ of a FF sensor. Twenty mega pixels is more than enough. Remember photography (IQ) is not about mega pixels it's about optics.

I have seriously considered selling my FF gear and going all in with M43 for digital work. (I have not quite got to that yet).

I'm with frankie c. I moved from (upgraded?) Canon APS-C 60D and a full bag of Sigma EX glass to the EM1 mark II. I am still learning/adjusting to the new system but I love it. I also have 12-40 PRO lens and an adapted 4/3's 50-200 2.8-3.5 swd. as well as the 60 macro and the lumix 25 1.4 summilux. The whole package is about half the size and 2/3 the weight of my Canon system covering the same range. The m43 glass is amazingly sharp. Near stellar quality. In my opinion the switch was well worth it. With the Mark III available I'm sure there will be some fantastic deals on the Mark II, not mine, but some!

I owned an Olympus EM1 mark II (and 2 x EM1's prior to that) for two years and used it in tandem with a Nikon D500 for wildlife photography. When looking at images from both cameras, I have difficulty deciding which images were taken with which camera. I look at some BIF images and think they must have been taken with the D500, only to discover I had used the EM1.2. I currently own an Olympus EM1X and Sony A7R4. The EM1 mark III, therefore, is not a camera I need: but If I still owned an EM1.2 I doubt I would exchange if for an EM1.3. For me, there just isn't enough to warrant the expense. As for the M43 format, I love it. In my tests, the EM1.2 + Oly 300mm f4 (both with and without the MC14) provided image quality on a par with my D500 + Nikkor 300mm f4 PF ED VR (with and without the TC14EIII). Olympus Pro series lenses are stunningly good and the weather proofing of the OM1 series cameras and Pro lenses is unmatched. Though my A7R4 has a 61MP sensor which produces outstanding detail, I have no problems with the detail and quality of the EM1X 20MP sensor.

As is their new flagship D6. It's plenty.

No one has mentioned the outstanding IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization). The m1.3 has SEVEN full stops of it. With an Olympus OIS lens, that makea 7.5. Kiss your tripod good-bye.

I have the 1.2, and will upgrade to the 1.3 as soon s I can get it on Amazon and get my 5% back. I like the joystick, the HHHR, the electronic ND filter, the charging directly by cord, and other small but cumulative upgrades. The oly with the 12-100 f/4 pro is usually all the camera I ever need, except when birding. Outztanding image quality, this after many years as a Nikon guy.

The small size, light weight, lower cost, and weather sealing all help seal the deal. Try it. You'll like it.

I have owned the EM 1 Mark ll for over 2 years now and it is an amazing camera, I recently purchased a Nikon Z6 to replace my D750 because I really like the mirrorless system, but I have used the Z6 very little. You mentioned some shots with the EM 1 Mark ll, you can view my page here, for the past 2 years 90% or more of these shots were with the Olympus.

First thing first, I use Olympus cameras but I do not own the OM-1 Mk II, a fantastic tool. I am familiar with it and I have seen hundreds of images made with it. It is not the best camera for tracking a subject but superior to what Olympus offered in the past.
I will put it to you this way, Olympus optics are among the finest and sharpest I have ever used in my more than 50 years as a photographer. Their Pro series is simply outstanding. The amateur lenses are also very sharp. It is a fantastic system.

My cameras have 17 Mp. and I seldom go with my enlargements beyond 13x19 inches. All of the details present in those enlargements are simply awesome. Others here have gone to 20x30 sizes without issues. 20Mp are more than enough pixels for the majority of us and those cameras have a feature by which a 50Mp. resolution shot is possible if extra resolution is what you need. I tell you that for me 20Mp. is more than enough for my needs and I do a lot of landscape photography. Portraits made with this camera in available light or studio using a lens like their 75mm f1.8 are simply awesome.

You cannot go wrong with the OM-1 Mk II, it is a great camera. This shot was made with my Pen EP-5 and the lowly 40-150 f4-5.6 kit lens. I am pretty satisfied with its quality and consider the size and the compression. The original looks 100% better.
