TAXES - a brief history of the last 100 years of new taxes.

Don't know where this originally came from but found it put up by a friend on Face Book: (not 100% accurate, a few of these things were taxed before, BUT!)

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid...

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the heck happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

The average citizen is estimated to pay half of their income on taxes either direct or indirect. Many folks do not realize that the individual pays for corporate tax as well, it's just rolled into the cost of goods and services as it should be, that's the way it works. So when they talk about taxing Wall Street to pay for people's personal debt I alway moan there goes my retirement and all that investment money that fuels the economy. I feel it's just pandering to buy votes. If I was running for office I'd campaign on mortgage and credit card forgiveness as well as free education, medical care, transportation, and vacations. Oh, and BEER!

I'm going to beg to differ with your last point. Both of my grandmorhers worked. In 1920 my newly widowed maternal grandmother went back to teaching grade school to support her daughter. My paternal grandmother was the primary breadwinner of the family, and worked during most of my father's childhood as a telephone operator. It is a fallacy that women stayed home. For their generation there were also many WWI widows and Spanish flu widows. Those women had to work, too.

The whole thing after my intro was from the FB post. And yes, some women/wives/mothers have always worked outside the home, but except for a few periods in our nation's history it has not been the norm. And yes, stay at home Moms do work at homemaking, child and elder care etc. Except for farm or ranch women in general - Everyone worked in those families except the very young - even the very old worked, if in no other way they stayed in the house and cared for the very young while everyone else worked.

But the point is the TAXES/FEES or whatever they decide to call them. We have even had some politicians who have tried to tax things that are already taxed and a few who wanted to tax the tax refunds as "income".
