I might suggest, since this is a club function and the issue seems to have repeated itself, that the receiver of the entries ALWAYS acknowledge receipt of the photos via reply email, along with an accurate count of how many he received. If you do not get the acknowledgement then the pics did not go through and you can resend them. Maybe I am oversimplifying here, but that seems logical to me.

MT Shooter, you are right on focus.

I am looking for advice about to stay in the club or not stay.

The incident is that I emailed my images 3 days before the deadline to get them in for the judging night. The person who recieves these images says he did not recieve mine. He did not change email address and he recieved all my pictures last year. My computer shows the email as "sent." I get this impression that I am not being told the whole story about my images. I sent two flowers, fireworks, sun rays through tree leaves, and a multi-layered waterfall. I tell you that to show that there was nothing risque or objectionable.

My first thoughts are that I am done with this group, I can do many other things on Monday nights. Then I wonder if I am being to quick to respond this way?

I appreciate your advice on handling this situation. Thank you.

As the Photo of the Month Contest chairman for our club, I occasionally disqualify entries because they are way off that month's subject or because they are way too small to be usable. Our prize is to provide the winner with a 16 x 20 print, with a 16 x 20 print also framed and hung in our development's club house.

In the case of photos that are too small to print at 16 x 20 (I have received photos that were under 100 Kb) I will work with the photographer to get a larger file if at all possible. Failing that, I have no choice but to disqualify the entry.

Is it possible that your photos were "off subject" or too small to use?

Thank you all for encouraging me to stay and not get upset over this one issue.

I just recieved an email for the person who did not recieve my first email. He stated that he recieved my second email which was a forward of the first email to the same email address used in the first email. The offer has been made that all 5 of the imaged will be judged on October in the traditional category. However, I will not get the two images for September category of color-on-color judged as part of that category.

He does send a recived email back. I have only been part of the club since March and ony submitted a few images before the summer break. September was the firs time I submitted all five images (2 category and 3 traditional). I was bent out of shape as my PP and composition has improved over the summer and was looking forward to see what other thought of the images.

I am part of the club to improve my skills. I have improved and learned some things from this group. I do not expect great scores nor does life raise and fall based on those scores, I look forward to the comments made about how the images might be improved.

Maybe the first email got lost in cyberspace.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

For next time, if it was me I would put the images in my dropbox and email him/her the link. The email then is tiny and they can grab the files straight from your link so there is no extra work for them. I would not in a million years email images, esp if we had problems with it last time

I agree. There should be an established policy to allow time if it seems photos have not been received. A "buffer zone" so to speak. As wonderful as the digital world is there are a lot of problems that can show up. I liked the old days when you went to a competition with mounted prints in tow. And sometimes your own easels. I lost a 1st place ribbon one time and my "print" was disqualified due to the fact that minimum size was 8x10. I had three B/W high contrast shots of Levi denims at about 7x10 each on the same board. the shots were all verticles and the narrow format worked for up close shots of a zipper, back pocket seam, and logo. I already had a 1st place ribbon on it when some a-hole questioned it. I just laughed, tossed him the ribbon and put my displayed photo(s) away.

I sent a few pictures from Cape Cod home to my wife in NY. She never got them. I tried sending them to myself, and I never got them, either. As someone said, "stuff happens."

If the individual you are criticizing receives a large salary, you are justified in complaining. If he is a volunteer, cut him some slack! He's most likely doing a lot of work for minimal rewards. Maybe you should offer to help him, not jump on him!

Believe it to be an e-mail problem. Have tried sending multiple files different times, only to have them truncated(believe that's the word), and the mail not sent, when multiple files that are to large for what the settings are.

Gee, could it be that the person is telling the truth and they didn't receive the e-mail? I've received one e-mail 4 weeks after it was sent. Why? I don't know. But I know it was late because I check my e-mail multiple times every day. Sometime things happen.

Yup!
Sometimes things happen.
We think of e-mail like snail mail where the envelope goes to the post office and comes out the other end. A physical thing. But, in reality that message is litterally broken apart and each part probably uses a different route to get to its destination. At that point each piece is put back into place for the final delivery notification.
It is one of the most complex series of software in existence. That we rely on and cannot understand when 'sometimes things happen."

Hi mate, I may not have read every post in reply so apologies if someone else has covered this aspect. But, I wonder if there is a subset here. One of the problems with email is that it is replacing speech. Face to face or even the telephone. I wonder if you have perhaps felt some sort of undercurrents at the Club meetings and now your pics going missing is just another nail in the relationship with the person involved. Have you actually, verbally, discussed the situation with him? I gather the Club is bigger than just this one guy so perhaps its something that you should discuss, out in the open, at the next Club meeting. I do think a quick resignation from the Club would be overkill if you enjoy the Club environment and the friendship with most members. Network with other members outside of Club night and get their opinion. I think you have many options before you resign. Unless of course you are looking for an excuse to do so. Just my pennyworth. Cheers (and good luck).

Get a program to compress them or send less number of files at a time.

Is the person receiving the photo club e-mails being paid for his labors, or is this a totally volunteer club? You have to factor in the vagaries of volunteerism. You can't really fire someone unless you actually hire them.

We have a large club 120+ members. Our club's site has a tab, so you can verify that your images were received. You can then click on another tab to see that your images are indeed there.

Your club probably needs a really good IT person and their site may need updating. Our club is fortunate to have a great guy who runs and trouble shoots our site continuously. It's a tremendous amount of effort and work that he puts in, and we all appreciate his dedication and hard work.

I can understand your frustration, but you need to find out exactly what happened. As far as quitting the club over this, seems rather drastic to me, unless you have had other incidents with your club to make you feel so strongly about quitting. We all make mistakes, but we need to move on and not dwell on them. I'm sure you will make the decision that makes you feel better. Best of luck.

I don't know if this applies but ever since I downloaded Mountain lion to my iMac I cannt send email using the apple email program. I have been on the phone constantly with Apple but the problem still exists. It gives all indications that the email is sent including the woosh and showing up in the sent folder but no one ever receives them. Almost makes one want to switch back to a PC. Like I said I don't know if this may be your problem or not you can send yourself a test message and see if you receive it.
