My D500 is reading ERR. I have swapped out batteries, XQD cards, SD cards, and Lens. I reset it within the menu. Lastly, I tried a hard reset and that did nothing.

Is there anything I have overlooked? Or it is off to Dr. Nikon.

If that doesn't work take it to Percision off Anderson Lane in Austin.

Much as I hate to go to Austin I will probably do that.

Remove the battery and let it sit for a few minutes, turn the power switch to on and press the shutter release a few times, turn it off and reinsert the battery, if you still have the problem wipe the camera lens contacts with a Qtip and alcohol. Be careful and use that alcohol sparingly. If all that fails then send it back to Nikon.

One more thing to try, put the Release settings on Mup, press the shutter button twice. That worked for me last time this happened.

My d7200 has done that twice. I pressed the shutter button and it took a picture. Not sure what I did to get it that way but pressing the shutter release button fixed it.

ERR is typically a lens communication issue. The FIRST thing to do is try another lens. Cleaning the lens to body contacts usually remedies this problem. Also check the lens contact points inside the body to see if one may have gotten damaged.
Cleaning should be done with a Q tip dampened with alcohol.

Err also happens when using an older lens with aperture selection selection ring not in the auto position, highest F stop.

Absolutely not! The message given in that instance is "FEE".

So, you cannot set aperture at the lens - you must set it at the body??

This happened to me a few weeks ago and it made me NUTS! I did the usual - turned it off & back on, removed the battery and put it back in, took off the lens, swapped out another, cleaned the contacts - STILL had the problem. Picked up my back-up D7200 & used that for the rest of the shoot. Got home, took the lens off, cleaned contacts again, fiddled with the contacts, lens back on. Then I started fiddling with the Live View button on the back - all of a sudden, the shutter button was working again. I have NO idea what exactly I did that solved the problem, but so far so good.

I would definitely start with MT’s suggestion to clean the contacts. I have a feeling that my second contact cleaning once I got back home was what fixed my problem.

I pressed the shutter release 3 times. The third time the shutter fired and all seems fine, except I have to set the camera back up again.
