Congrats on the new camera, Frankie! Your pic looks good.
I have the EM10 MII. I'm looking forward to hearing how you like the new gear. What was your previous?
Thanks Linda, let me share a little of that with you now. First I do have like one of each of all the OMD cameras except the X1. My go to carry camera was always me em10 mark ii. Always great results, easy to carry, on board flash, I am a real fan of the tilt screen (you know the drill). It was the one camera I thought I could never give up.
when they announced the em5 mark iii I started looking at the specs. Kind of referring to it as a baby EM1 mark ii. I started looking at the specs (they seemed to be taking a lot out) That was in the EM5 mark ii which I think is (was) the best thought out MFT Olympus ever built. The EM5 mark ii, even when you added the extra battery grip stayed light weight, small and fully packed with features Including High Res.
The mark iii was not gonna offer that grip (quandary). If they had offered the mark iii with a tilt screen I would have been first in line to pre-order (that wasn't gonna happen).
Was thinking (not always a good idea for me), maybe I should buy another em10 mark ii before they totally stop making them. Also, started looking at the specs on the em10 mark iii. Stated thinking that the em5 mark iii was really a em10 mark iii on steroids (not a baby em1 mark ii).
Finally decided and bought the em10 mark iii (silver), haven't had a silver body since 1967.
The advantages:
1. The new engine (faster processing, faster focusing, way better tracking) easily out matches my 10 ii
2. 4K video, 120 fps slow mo video
3. OLED evf (really prefer that) maybe biased (I worked a little on the concept in the 90's at Kodak)
4. 121 focus points
Disadvantages: (not as significant as I thought at first)
1. The more stream lined menu system reduces the amount of customization you can do.
(that said the defaults are appropriate good choices and there are work arounds)
2. The AP section is mostly not well engineered (my opinion) but the old methods still available.
3. When not in movie mode you can only video in the default HD
My new go to carry camera (my son now has my em10 mark ii.
you can buy It for half the price of the em5 mark ii (you give up weather sealing and phase detect.
I will say that silver body is pretty, immediately got attention and comments by passerby peeps. Not a great choice for street photography (So I bought a black body one too). Both together price lower the em5 mark iii
SO why the em5 mark iii?
I always new I would buy this after the price started dropping (it came earlier than I thought and plus I had some coupons.
PLUS: Faster processing engine, Phase and contrast detect focus, Hi res, Pro mode, 30 frames PS silent,
the longer range in the OLED evf less clipping if you ware glasses, small less bulky than my em1 mark ii.
Sorry, this is a really long reply but on the bright side I did not tell you everything I wanted too
