Leaf Cell Texture

Walked around the yard this afternoon looking for any signs of Spring. All that I could find were sprigs of wild onion and some tiny green leaves which I brought one of the leaves, about the size of a pinky fingernail, in for a focus stacked magnified session.

I found it interesting to see the tiny succulent "hairs" and the texture of the cells that make up the surface of the leaf.

As always, thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Very interesting. A couple things I know about leaves which would be visible at this scale is that the fine bumpy texture you see are the outlines of epidermal cells. They will have lobes that interlace with lobes of other epidermal cells, a bit like how puzzle pieces fit together. Also the underside of the leaf can be fairly different. There you may find iris-shaped openings called stomates. These are used to let in carbon dioxide for photosynthesis.

Wow, thanks Mark. I'll turn it around and see what I can find..."The Game is Afoot".
