Question: With the back of the camera open, no film in it, and I have pushed the shutter button, when I advance the film advance lever, will the take-up spool advance even if there is no film attached?

Thank you in advance for your help!

It should. The advance lever mechanically cocks and shutter and advances the film.

All of my film cameras did.
That's how I got the film leader wrapped around the take-up spool.
Camera back open, mounted the leader, watched it advance before closing the back.
The take-up spool pulls the film out of the can (or off the feed roll).

HOWEVER - There was an old camera model (don't remember which one) where the unexposed film was wound onto the spool (camera back closed) BEFORE shooting, and the "advance" rolled the film back into the can. When done taking pictures, the film was back in the can.

There might be an "idler" that only moves if there is film in the camera, otherwise yes.

What size film does this camera use?

Did you mean the Yashica Lynx 1000? I couldn't find any information on the Lynx 100. I have the Lynx 14 and 14e.
But yes the shutter, the film advance lever and the take up spool work without film and with the back open.

I remember encountering this but have forgotten make & model. It was puzzling for a bit. Pushed the "idler" and problem solved. Looong time ago!

If the film take-up spool doesn't turn, you have a broken wind mechanism....stripped gears, other damage.

More info than you could ever hope to find on all the Yashica 35mm rangefinder 35mm camera's at Yashica-Guy.com.

All including Lynx, Electro, J, and a number of others. This is the most complete Yashica site I found when I was in my Electro and Lynx phase.

The Yashica Electro 35 was a great camera. It used 35mm film, was easy to use, zero shutter lag, and well built. Bought mine at a pawnshop for $35 bucks and shot many a roll before it was stolen from my van. Just remember to take the lens cap off first. It replaced my Kodak Disk pos
