Old printer paper

Occasionally while digging through boxes at home I find packets, some unopened, of various photo printer papers or card stock type papers from the last 20 years, including some t-shirt transfer paper from the late 1990's. Will it damage my 2019 Canon Pixma Pro100 printer if I try it out?

Not if you don't tell it :)
If the paper is straight, the head won't touch it so won't be a problem.

That would be my supposition also.

Thanks - I can use it for test prints or greeting cards or post cards, then.

Just done some prints (A3plus) on Kodak Glossy Metallic Finish with date stamp 2004. on the carton. No problems. Just watch that the paper is flat with no upturned edges/corners.

Why not anything?
It's paper.

I don't think that you will damage your printer by using "old" paper in it. My experience has been that some (but not all) old photo paper becomes stiff and/or curved and won't feed properly through my Canon printer. Then I just get rid of it. New paper isn't terribly expensive.

18th, of course. He was a friend of Jules Verne

Yes, really. Legit question. I'm old enough to have used photo (light sensitive anyway) papers from the 20th Century. Photography originated in the early 19th Century. I have a Box of Kodak paper dated 1953. It is older than I am.

I've wondered if I were to Fix unexposed traditional printing paper, Wash and Dry it, could I Ink Jet print on it? Sure the cost of Fixer and time is a waste but it might still be interesting to try.

Don't just throw out old unusable paper. At least use it for scratch pads. Save a twig.

Do you purchase ink jet paper for printing documents also?
(I just use copy paper.)

Some do and some don't. (I've been reading about this.). The coatings will vary according to use. In all cases, the fiber and coating are designed to assist in drying and prevent smearing compared with plain copy paper, which is what I mostly use for everything except photos. Photos don't print well on copy paper.
