Thanks for the memories!
When I was a youngster, we had a couple of these at home.
Since insects never landed on them when we were watching, my brother "borrowed" a glass vase from my mom and became very adept a catching flies (and other insects) with a small net, and releasing them under the upside down vase over the plant!
