Any RX100 III owners out there who've experienced this? I'm seeing this message on the screen upon power-up: "Writing to the memory card was not completed correctly. Recover data?" beneath which appears Enter and Cancel, neither of which resolve the problem. Have tried new card but same message pops up. Have also tried powering up and down with no resolution to the problem. With various manipulations of buttons, the camera's screen sometimes shows the scene that the lens sees but "Error" shows up on the screen so unable shoot. Bought this refurbished from Adorama 18 months ago, along with a 2-year Green Leaf warranty, but Adorma/Green Leaf won't cover anything because the warranty language (on the invoice) says "Lens only". I failed to recognize that when I purchased the camera. I'm quite disappointed in Adorama for limiting the warranty to a fixed lens, but not much I can do about it. As far as trouble shooting and repair services are concerned, I live in Maine quite distant from reputable repair shops but have a trip planned to Arizona so I might take the camera to Tempe Camera for trouble shoot and fix. I've had very positive past experiences with them. Suggestions?

I’d try it with no card just to see and then the old standby, factory reset.
Good luck.

Thanks Bruce but same result. That said, I'm leaning toward reset pending responses from others.

If I were in your situation, I’d give the old Factory Reset or Reset to Default Settings a go. At this point I don’t think there is much of a down-side to that approach.

I own a later model, have not experienced the problem but just in case if you find the answer I am sure other owners would be interested in the solution.

Tried resetting to factory settings. It failed to solve the problem - still unable to shoot.

Found this similar problem in a Sony forum and it appears that memory card speed may be the culprit. It might be worth a try. https://community.sony.ie/t5/alpha-nex-interchangeable-lens-cameras/a6300-recovering-data-writing-to-memory-card-not-completed/m-p/2335895#M5865

I had a similar one on my Sony RX 100IV. I put a fresh battery in, mine goes through batteries quickly, did a reset and all is fine. It this message may occur for other reasons. I did not have a low battery warning.

Are you able to format the card in camera? Can you access the card and read it from a computer?

A friend had a Sony crop sensor SLT camera, that he sent to Precision Camera Repair in Enfield, Connecticut. They're supposed to specialize in fixing Sony Cameras. Before, sending it in, do a factory reset. Good luck.

I have a RX100II and the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I tried using a new card, but it kept telling me to use the card that was previously in there. It became a vicious circle. I got a new card and formatted it in another camera (a Canon) and then put it in the RX100II. I reformatted it and it works fine now. I don't know how or why but it does. I used it on Friday with no issues. I think the Sony card that was in there is bad. I could never format it, so the images are still on it.

I would have never thought of what you did, to make it right. All that count, is that you got it back to normal. If I ever encounter a similar problem with my Sony Cyber Shot pocket camera. I'll keep this in mind. I have never had a SD card fail on me. I have SanDisk and Lexar branded SD cards. Known to be very reliable memory cards.

I'm glad it worked for you. The Sony is my take-a-long camera. The thought of having to send it off for repair was not appealing.
