I have read about rechargeable batteries and plan to buy some. What I don't know is what kind of charger should I be looking for? I searched this forum but only saw old entries and no specific mention of a non-OEM charger except Lacrosse.
Please let me know if you have had a good experience and the make and or model.
Thanx

What batteries do you wish to charge? Since you mentioned the Lacrosse, I am anticipating that you are in search of a charger for AA cells and on this assumption, I offer a consideration for the Powerex MH-C9000. I like this charger as it is both a charger and an analyzer.
I have a LaCrosse charger, that I've owned for several years. There are others that are good too. Others can charge from 4 to 16 batteries at one time. You want a Smart charger, that can monitor the charging status of each AA or AAA batteries. The Dumb wall charger, doesn't do that. I own both types of chargers. I travel with my Dumb charger. B&H sells AA and AAA battery chargers, and rechargeable batteries. Eneloop batteries are among the best rechargeable batteries. Good luck.

You should always be looking for a smart charger, your rechargables will be thankful!
I have been using the Maha MH-C801D for years. It charges 8 batteries at one time of the AA or AAA variety (NiMH or NiCD). It monitors each battery for charge and will stop the charging process once the battery is fully charged. It also allows you to smart discharge your batteries before recharging if needed. There are other models from Powerex such as the C9000 mentioned earlier. Don't think you can go wrong with one of their smart chargers.

If your charging, say, Nikon batteries for a Nikon camera, then I would suggest a Nikon charger. Same thing for any brand. Batteries are one of the cheapest accessories you can buy next to memory cards. Don't skimp on this important accessory.

Out of the thousands of rechargable batteries in this world, what type, voltage, use and chemical make up are you asking about?

Not sure what you are looking for, but for eneloops I use a Maha charger I bought from B&H. Best of luck.
I second Chris's recommendation... AA eneloops have proven a real workhorse for my commercial assignments... they hold their charge for seemly forever... and I've recharged them hundreds of times...
They power my speedlights and radio triggers... never have failed... That said, when their charge falls below acceptable levels the radio triggers will act flacky... My workaround is to always carry spares and swap out the radio trigger/receiver batteries midway through the day if I'm on set for a prolonged period.
Word of caution: Alkaline batteries leak and damage equipment... one would be wise to avoid them if possible, experience is a brutal teacher...
Hope this helps...
I use both AA and AAA eneloops batteries with consistent success I believe they are made by Panasonic. I use a Panasonic outlet charger which works for both sizes. I’ve also successfully charged them using a solar panel while traveling and backpacking.

In my classroom we use a lot of rechargeable AAs. I have several chargers, laCrosse being one brand. Using a smart charger is definitely the way to go. One aspect of rechargeables that I see no one has mentioned is the MiApH rating. Some are rated at 2000 and some are rated up to 2600. The higher the number the more power and longer the battery will last. Another thought, I found rechargeables will take more charges if you let them drain all the way down, don't recharge if there is still a charge left. And they will at some point die and no longer take a charge.

Hi,
I apologize for not being more complete in my request for help. I will be using AA and AAA batteries and a smart charger. The AA for my flash unit, the AAA around the house.
Thank you to all for replying to my request. I wasn’t as specific as I should have been. I will buy the eneloop batteries and a Masha smart charger.
I read the Hop everyday and learn something everyday. Hoggers are very helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you so much for your responses.
