I have suddenly started experiencing a slow down while using the the LR tools especially spot removal tool and adjustment brush. Even the sharpening slide caused the LR to not respond and it started to blink on the screen. I have a 6 month old built computer that has a lot of bells and whistles and a tremendous amount of storage space available. Any ideas on what could be going on? Previously no problems with LR on this computer.
Usually a slow down like this can be attributed to two factors: - temp files are getting in the way, clean the darn things. - It is possible that if some 'safe guards' are not removed the CPU slows down quite a bit if the CPU gets hot and is not cooled properly. (I had similar symptoms using PS CC, turned out the water cooler pump had given up the ghost).

In some cases an issue with the GPU can cause the issues described. If you are not set to use the GPU, use it, if using it, turn it off, then try to duplicate the issue again.
If anyone else has this problem, I went in to Edit, Preferences,Peformance, Purge Cache. That did the trick!
You might want to increase your cache space. If you google 'Lightroom Performance Tips', a few ideas will come back. One that is consistent is updating the size of the cache folder. Depending on your free space on disk, consider something in the 30GB range.

Have you "Optimized" your Catalog? In the upper tool bar under "file" there is an option to "Optimize Catalog" Give that a try first and foremost.

Yes, I have gone back in and increased cache size. I have lots of memory storage available.

Yes, Catalog is optimized and does so when backed up once a week I think. Went back in to check when LR was acting up and it had been optimized the week prior. Hopefully, purging the cache has done the trick permanently!
Clearing the cache is not a one-time operation. It fills up with left-over files and pieces of files over time and should be periodically cleared. The program I use to accomplish this most quickly is ccleaner (ccleaner.com). It provides diagnosis and treatment of this problem.

Thanks. I have this problem when using the adjustment brush & move around a lot not waiting for the computer to finish the first brush stroke. Mine is set to 20gb. I went into the resource panel & seen the network graph full & wondered what that had to do with it. After further monitoring I believe its the gpu. The graph would spike all the way up the temps would climb about 30 degrees Celsius , near 60 Celsius.(i7-6700 4 core). Once reading a article that Gene51 provided a link to suggested the cpu (guessing there is a lot of math computations involved with these adjustments) is where spending the money makes most sense.
