Spell-check mis-fix ...IRIX, not IRIS, Need some info..
I am interested in getting yet ANOTHER macro lens, for my Pentax K-1. ...... An interesting offering from B&H is an “IRIX 150mm macro”, and though it is a relatively new device, i hope that hoggers might have an opinion as well as some experience with this lens and lens company. I would appreciate any and all comments. RJM
No experience here. I can see how it would be attractive given the long working distance. You can see the specs on it at B&H and some reviews. It is manual focus only and lacks image stabilization, but you would have to decide if those matter for how you would want to use this lens. The focus lock ring makes me wonder if the focus would drift if you are aiming down, but I see no mention of that so maybe no problem. Lots of rounded aperture blades, and that should be nice. It is a wide lens, and a bit heavy.
There are several reviews online, and I looked at two of them. Both conclude it to be an excellent lens with very high end optical performance. You should look at the online reviews for more information but so far it looks very good.
Heck, now I am being tempted. This would be great for pulling in 'flighty' insects....
With 9 macro lenses and the longest being 180mm, I have no interest in getting it. That said, it does look interesting...
