Sent to me by a friend:

Dennis

The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday. 47 times.

They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, blue hairs, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are "Baby Boomers" getting ready to retire, others are from the Greatest Generation already retired. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and have grown old together.

In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. We still use two spaces after a period when typing. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, $.25 gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes.

We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote “The Pledge of Allegiance”, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride, and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." We may have wore different uniforms but we carried the same flag.

We know the words to the “Star Spangled Banner,” “America,” and “America the Beautiful” by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sang them. We have lived what many of you should have read in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.

Yes, we are older and slower these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We love this country, fought and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that’s an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.

It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies” from your college professors. You youngsters need to taste socialism and see evil face to face to understand you don't like it after all. You make a lot of noise, most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 are now having buyer's remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.’

Well, don't worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in 2016 we took back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like, but we still get where we're going, and in 2020 we're driving to the polls again by the millions.

So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor your country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Gray-Haired Brigade."

Footnote: This is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Geezer signing on. I will circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this still great country. Can you feel the ground shaking? It's not an earthquake, it’s a STAMPEDE. And, you and I are members.

Please Don't Delete. Just Read and Pass it on!!

In God we STILL trust!

AMEN!

I can't be called a grey-haired geezer because my hair left me many years ago. I'm just a geezer.

There are many reasons for the disparity in net worth. One reason is that when I was young I was taught to save money. I can't say I did it all the time, but I was selective in my purchases and the savings/investment account increased. In contrast, what I see of the young generation is that they are into fashion (in my opinion a money waster if there ever was one) and they want all the latest gadgets. I might want all (or at least some of) the latest gadgets, but I don't buy them. At least I don't buy ALL of them.

Another point, inflation has taken its toll on us all. When I was a kid $5000 a year was a living wage. You could buy a new car for maybe $700. There was probably an average of 1.5 cars per household. You had to share the car. You could buy a house for $5000. Inflation has increased the house prices from one year of a living wage to maybe 4 or 5 times that. Of course the houses back then were pretty basic. Shelter and heat, and maybe a bit of decoration. Now they don't build things like that any more. Mini mansions or worse. Around 1961 I took a road trip and visited some friends in Colorado. Colorado is sometimes water challenged, so they had a lawn of river stone. Never had to mow or water it. Around 1990 I had a business trip to Colorado and the whole town was full of mini mansions with manicured lawns, irrigated so they stayed green. The population of the town was probably a factor of 5 larger than it was 30 years earlier. And the town had water rationing.

I will avoid the political rant other than to note that both the major parties are at fault for the mess we're in. Socialism is not the answer, but neither is capitalism, at least the way it's practiced today. CEOs running companies into the ground and retiring with millions of dollars for their trouble. Wages for the grunts not keeping pace with inflation. The National Debt is truly astounding these days (one of the causes of inflation).

I did not win WWII, but my father did his part. If you were in WWII (joining the military at age 18) you would be at least 93 today.

When my wife turned 80 her doctor informed her that she was no longer considered senior. She was geriatric.

This country was founded on great principles. Let us uphold those principles, which set forth the rights of man.

I sure remember what "behind the wood shed" meant. The few times I had to march back there were more about the fanfare than any real whippin. I learned pretty quick how to avoid spending time back there. When mom told me she would wash my mouth out with soap if I ever swore, I believed her. (She's one hot headed Irish woman), Dad is gone now but his way of rearing myself and my three siblings left an indelible mark on each of us that have served us well as we go through life. Makes me sad now as I listen to my daughter-in-law brag about the amount of money she spends on behavior therapy for her nine year old son. Best therapist in Boulder she says. I don't think dad spent near that much on a willow twig.

Maybe we are brothers. There is more from the other side. My Dad coached the knot hole baseball team and helped with the junior high football team. My mother never missed a high school track meet. Both parents never missed a high school football game, a basket ball game or a horse show.

My parents always walked across the field with me on parents night. My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was 15. She was in and out of the hospital for the remainder of her life.

Kids from town would come to our house in the winter to ice skate. My mother always made a large pot of soup and made sure no one got too cold.

The last football game of my sophomore year was parents night. My mother was in the hospital and very weak. As we lined up to walk across the field, to my surprise, an ambulance drove onto the field and my mother managed to get out and walk across the field with my dad and I to a standing ovation. The ambulance drove around the field and picked her up then drove to the end of the field, opened the back of the ambulance, got propped up and watched the game. The ambulance took her back to the hospital.

She passed away 3 months later while I was holding her hand.

I had GREAT roll models.

I can understand why patriotism, decency, and moral values would be a problem for you.

Some of us don't want to live under a socialist communist regime, and that is why we put a man who will put America first and we will see that he gets another four years.
