I love these small, acrobatic birds that are so quick to move while chirping to each other. This flock was enjoying my bougainvillea! They are a challenge to photograph. The last two birds are also difficult to capture: a wrentit (with a much longer tail), and a blue gray gnatcatcher.

I love this set. Really difficult birds that rarely sit still, very small, too. I see lots of Bushtits around here, always in groups. Wrentits and Gnatcatchers, I have to travel to see. Great photos!

Did you know the last 3 photos is a female? Compare the eyes with the first photos.

The last two pics are of a blue gray gnatcatcher, and the fifth from the top is a wrentit. I do note that the eye ring is white on the gnatcatcher and the wrentit, while the bushtit is a dark eyed little bird. I didn’t know about the sex on these little birds! I was just trying to capture them before they moved! How interesting!

Here are several more gnatcatcher pics....definitely a white eye ring.

And another pic of the wrentit.

Katy, if you ever travel to Goleta (by Santa Barbara), we have a lot of wrentits and blue gray gnatcatchers. It’s a birder’s paradise here! Thanks for your comments! I always enjoy your birds as well!

Nice photos of these little guys. One can sure learn a lot about birds on UHH. They are such colorful, beautiful things. Guess that is the reason we photographers like to shoot birds so much.

I'm embarrassed that I didn't notice the three different birds. BUT, the female Bushtit does have a light yellow ring around its eyes.

You were right, though. The bushtit is a male! Don’t know about the wrentit. The blue gray gnatcatcher female is supposed to be a lighter grayish bird, so your guess is as good as any!
