In a Webinar (Topaz) yesterday there was a brief discussion about where does photography ends and art begins.. the brief comment by the gent giving the webinar was ... well what does it mater.. what YOU like is fine. Over saturation, a high percentage of people love it.. (face excluded) Recall the Peter Max art of the 60s ... well he was not a starving artist and them-whernt-ya-pastel-stuff.

Wheezer1, I do not believe the adagege of "get what ya pay for" My filters are mostly from China... perhaps for some ovewrought cameras they get nervous with low cost filters. I too am on a shor purse and will compromise in favor of food/clothing/shelter and then down the ladder hobby.

I just bought a used 70-300 mm lens which on my Sony Alpha gives me 105-450mm. When I shoot the moon, I hope I do as well as you!! No telescope?? I standardized all my filters to 58mm one size like socks.

Look into Topazlabs.com.... Adjust is the best 1st one... watch a seminar (webinar) on line and you get 30% off... The latest is a stand alone base... it will take 3rd party plugins...

dpullum, I sold my telescope and almost all of my accessories last year. The back isn't what it used to was. ;-) When I had my telescope I typically made around 35 exposures of 3 minutes each then added them together electronically. Most of my astrophotography now is wide field with short exposures.
Being retired, I too try to save a nickel when I can, yes food and shelter are a prime concerns for me also..
.I see your from Flint..I lived in Grand Blanc a few years ago, my daughter and family still live there. Where I live now it's a 30 mile drive to go shopping which doesn't make my wife happy..
I'm seeing more HDR photos and even with my love of slightly "over saturated" photos I haven't seen too much that impressed me. Thanks for the tip about Topazlabs.com I'll check it out..

Yourk17402 & Wheezer1 so, my back is not the only one that rebells at leaning over a fender and when asked at a Dr office how tll I was, Told the Gal, Use to be 5-11 but I am shrinking!

No, Live in North Tampabay area, Grew up in Grand Blanc, I was in Flint (Swartz Creek) this summer to visit my sisters... And to experience 100+ power outages and the poverty of what use to be a prosperous area!!! Saw xgov Granholm at DNC... wow dynamic lady..the new Gov is a despot... see MSNBC Rachel Maddow show and search for Michigan...

The photo attached was acomplished jumping back & forth between MGI 4 (used for clone, and other basics because it is very manual and simplistic = controlable), PSP X-4, Topaz, DAP (Dynamic Auto-Paint http://www.mediachance.com/dap/index.html ) and back to MGI to print (full control of size, aspect ratio etc. easily)

I predict that Topaz and On-One (they have two good free programs) with their stand alone engines will all but eliminate PS except for the old die-hards in perhaps 5 years. PhotoSpiralysis is also a neat one. GIMP is used to run the free open-source MathMap tools. Another for adding Art effects is http://www.ransen.com/repligator/Default.htm

Enjoy art, photography is just the first step....

Grand Blanc is still a nice town but Flint may never recover. I worked at G.M. for 36 years, we've seen the industry in good times and bad but this has been the worse.. My sister-in-law lives in Spring Hill Fla. We try to visit her every year, don't know it we'll make it this winter.. I'm having surgery next week at Beaumont in Royal Oak..It might take a while before I can travel.. I used to be 6 feet tall but after having back surgery a few years ago I shrunk to 5'11". These are the "golden years" right?
I have Dynamic Auto-Painter on my computer..that's another great way to spend untold hours staring at my computer monitor. Photoshop Elements is another. I like the effect you got in your photo..take care, Wheezer
