As far as I'm concern it's "good riddance to CRT TVs and monitors". They were big and bulky and heavy. If you still have one it's hard to get rid of it. The electronic recycler around here won't take them, flat panels only. I had a 32" Sony CRT TV. It took two men and a boy to move the damn thing. The 50" Samsung I have now I can pick up and carry it by myself. And the picture looks better.
The CRTs served their purpose but it's time to move on.

An aside: spoken like a true railroad man. When I worked on restoring the Frisco 1522 steam locomotive ~30 years ago, the retired Frisco pipefitter who volunteered with us would frequently say it would take "two men and a boy" to move something. I still use the phrase occasionally, but haven't heard it from anybody else in a long time. (And even though most of us were a lot younger then, we still preferred to call in the forklift whenever it was available.)

My 27" Phillips CRT TV is still working after at least 10 years. I also have a 27" wide screen Samsung monitor on my desktop computer (LED flat screen). When the TV dies it will be replaced with a flat screen LED version.

Bought a 35" Sony CRT in 1999. Instruction book that came with it cautioned the owner that the TV weighed 183 pounds. After the flat screen arrived, it sat in the living room alone and unused for several years. Finally gave some disposal outfit 25 bucks to take it off my hands. RIP

Thanks everyone for your comments regarding the CRT television sets. One thing most of you agreed on, was the heavy weight. I knew about that, having to move my late grandmother's TV from an upstairs apartment. To take to the repair shop and back. Great stories told on this topic.
