It might be your approach. Instead of badmouthing the camera, along with the damage you did to it, you might have appealed for some help in finding a substantial camera. Something along the lines of, hey guys, I lead a pretty active lifestyle. I climb, hike, etc. During these adventures, I tend to be pretty hard on myself as well as the equipment I have with me. Can anyone recommend a "bulletproof" camera that can fit in my pocket so I can photograph some of my adventures?

You need the Olympus TG-6 camera. It can stand abuse.

sorry for my approach,, i come from 10 yrs with a camera that has served me so well that anything i buy is going to have to really hit a high mark. my sony was in my pocket with my keys and a leatherman tool, just like my olympus was and had been the only thing i can think of is the the latch on the sony caught and was opened. but bad luck or whatever, one thing or another, the focus still is not sharp. the battery still does not stay charged. i am very sorry for sounding like an ass, but i have always tried to give things a fair shake, i am not good at writing, as you can well see, but i try,, to explain myself as best i can,, but in the end i did nothing i would not have done with the olympus,, and ihadthissony only since july,, does not speak well for it..but i do thank you and i will try to write better when asking for help.. i have no excuse for that,

Ok, so get a more rugged point and shoot like this one:

Olympus - Tough TG-6 12.0-Megapixel Water-Resistant Digital Camera

Or perhaps the Nikon D500... "Rex Edition"

just in my right pocket like my olympus did for 10+ yrs with my keys and supertool., latching soft, how does that affect the out of focus zoom and battery life.

A man's character is not measured by how he handles his wins, but how he handles his equipment.

I have the D500 and have taken it everywhere with me - granted I'm not a rock climber, but I have done things you're not 'supposed to do' with a camera: changed lenses while in sand dunes, brought it out in the rain, set it up on a tripod in the direct line of fire below waterfalls, quite a bit of scrambling over boulders, amidst the strong smell of pepper spray at the Hong Kong protests... still shoots like a charm and never had a problem with it. It's not as light as a point-and-shoot, and it's not gonna fit in your pocket, but it's a solid workhorse.

You can also buy a silicone body wrap for added protection (reminder to myself to get one).

Sounds like your pocket is a really harsh environment.
