Just is this an FYI for people considering mid-sized mirrorless camera's. I like the features of the cameras, but they are a little small for my hands. Battery grips are good to give more right-hand grip space. See the photo's.

I have a Vivitar grip for the A7R3, and a Meike for the A6500. The grip is especially handy for the small A6500. Plus the grips have a shutter release button for portrait shooting. There are grips made for other mid-size cameras too.

I haven't used them enough to comment on the extra run time from the dual batteries.

And they really help steady the camera while shooting.

Olympus makes a battery holder for all of their OM-D models. Here is my E-M1 Mk2 with its battery holder and the really great hand strap that they make to mate with the combination. I have also attached the lugs for an Op/Tech strap. The battery holder adds some weight but it's worth it for the extra life and the ability to use that hand strap.

Vello, a third party company, is making battery grips, for select cameras. Where the camera Brands don't make battery grips for their cameras.Third party is sometimes your only choice. If, you want a battery grip?

I had a grip when I was a Canon Rebel user - found it made the camera too large and unwieldy. If we could handle a ‘bare’ body forty years ago {and some of us did}, I don’t a need for an addition today when the bodies are so much larger.

I find it really helps balance heavy lenses. I have had one for all my Canons, but can’t decide about the Fuji - don’t want to compromise the light weight advantage.

My Pentax KP comes with three interchangeable grips. Many users complain that even with the largest grip, the body is too small to ‘balance’ long lenses. I have never used anything other than the smallest grip; instead of attempting to ‘balance’ a system, I use my left hand to supply needed balancing force against the lens just as I did forty years ago when all the cameras were smaller.

Great for DSLRs also. All the DSLRs I've had been gripped.
Weight has never been an issue for me. Handling is much improved for me anyway.

Nice.

One advantage of compact cameras is their smaller size.

Silly question, doesn't adding a battery grip negate the advantage of the slightly smaller lighter camera that people buy a mirrorless are after?

Exactly. (And the extra battery helps make up for the shorter battery life)
